The car is a rebuilt '97 Hyundai Elantra GLS, bought in 2000, with an aftermarket security system.
Nothing on the security thing's casing indicates the company, only "Made in the USA" on the front, and wiring info on the back. There is a small shred of a sticker that once had the serial# printed on it. Only 3 characters are still there.

The best I've been able to trace down was the manufacturer, Delta Vehicle Security, based on this FCC ID#: J5523518R.

Google has only turned up this site..
Calling them only got the messaging system, and they don't look like they've invested much in their website.

The box is connected to something else, which has a 10-digit # silkscreened onto it, as well as some of what looks to be Chinese writing.

Are there any good places to go to get new transmitters?
I already have one, but my car is useless if it is somehow disabled. I had a scare today after replacing the ailing battery - it refused to relinquish control of the car to me. I contacted the garage where the car was rebuilt. His only suggestion there was to hold the button down for several seconds, which did do the trick. He didn't know who the manufacturer would have been though, so I had to do the FCCID thing.

So I'd still like to get a spare transmitter, but aren't they going to need a serial number of some sort? How does that work? Are there any good sites to check out?

HALPS ME O mighty knowers-of-cars!11!!!! :)

The site you went to, says they will get back to you if you left a message.
You might also try going into a local car alarm shop in your area. Most techs,
will be able to recognize what you have and may even be able to supply what
you are looking for. Otherwise, why get a spare ? ? Unless yours is acting up,
which is usually a weak battery or the contacts inside it are getting dirty.

Do you have a spare key for your car? Or for your house? I've got a spare key, but it's useless to me if the key fob goes missing, or is damaged.
I've dropped it a few times, and really, it's just not all that sturdy. It could get lost, stepped on, etc etc - all the reasons you might like to keep a spare of something on-hand.

I've already lost the keys to my apartment once. My landlord had his own set, but they were copies, and didn't work well to begin with. The copies I made of those just barely worked at all. The deadbolt key had to be pulled out about 1/8" from full insertion, or it wouldn't turn. That got to be a pain in the ass, so I finally re-cored the deadbolt.
I have no idea where I lost them either; it could be on the campus somewhere, or else 10 miles away. Plus it was snowing that day, so they likely got plowed over several times.

Point is, spare keys are good. Spare keys without the security transmitter are just useless strips of metal.

I asked about other "good" places to buy this stuff from, because that website doesn't really inspire confidence in their service. They don't have an 800 number, and they don't have web ordering. The site looks like something out of the early 90's.

This does not inspire confidence either.
PANTHER ELECTRONICS INC. has been in business since 2003. In actuality it came to life many years ago, when its founders created the mobile electronics company DELTA VEHICLE SECURITY in 1985.
