I'm biting the bullet and finally ordering the components over the next 13 days for a buildup for my new PC.....
I'm reusing my Radeon X1950 Pro (it was a present and cannot dump it...wife'd kill me!!!) and my Seagate 160GB SATA hd. All other components are going to be new purchases. So, I've just about narrowed it down to this selection:
Intel E4300 cpu @ ~$175
Intel Bad Axe 2 motherboard @ $175
Buffalo Firestix 1GB X 2 memory (FSX800D2C-K2G) @ $244
Samsung 18X DVD-RW w/Lightscribe X 2 @ $35/ea.
Cooler Master Mystique 631 case @ $45
Corsair HX520W power supply @ ~$100
CPU cooler....either full out air cooler such as the Tuniq Tower or Zalman 9700, or an entry-level Corsair Nautilus 500 (I know there's better out there by building up piece-by-piece, but none easier for a water-cooling complete n00b!!)
My uses for the computer.....some gaming but no FPS's, I mostly do RTS like Comany of Heroes and Civ variants. Otherwise, some photo editing, but light at best. Most of the rest of the time is just web browing and easy-on-the-system crud.
So, in my suggested system, any changes I should look at?
THX!
Just so my wife's not left out in case she's stumbles across this posting....her new PC is very much like what I'm setting up but without any outlook to OC it: settled on the same processor and power supply, but switching to a Biostar TForce 965PT motherboard, reusing her Radeon X800 Pro video card, her ASUS DVD-ROM and an NEC 3540-A DVD-RW, and her Cooler Master Centurion 5 case. She'll have the cheapest PC-5300 DDR2 RAM I can find.
