Again another thread relating to dual-core and memory - I didn't see this one and started one

Again the balance is between 4 x512Mb and 2x 1Gb. The question really is whether the X2 processor s are bandwidth starved at DDR400 or would benefit from moer bandwidth.

If so, then I'd imagine 4x 512MB sticks would be the best option if the CPU can handle 4 sticks at raised FSBs - if it can't then undoubtedly you'd be better off with 1GB sticks.

Tricky and difficult situation. Personally I'd say go with the 4400 and get better RAM

Ok...I already ordered the 4800+ CPU...I don't know if it would be better off with 4x512mb or 2 1gb sticks...that's why I'm asking. I'm new to the AMD camp, always been an Intel fan because of a bad experience with the older K6's. Any actual and useful info would help...thanks. I need to order the MB and Memory today if possible

I want to go 2gb so this was one of the best I could find

TWINX2048-3200C2PT XMS3200 2048MB 2.5-3-3-6 2x184 DIMM Platinum Spreaders (2-3-3-6 on Intel)

Am I invisible? I already recommended a 2GB pack that's even better than that:

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM (PC 3200) Platinum Spreaders

Model: OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K
CAS Latency: 2
Timing: 2-3-2-5 (and everyone I know who has it goes 2-2-2-5 w/no problems)

Can't tell what's the best memory unless you say what you want to do with it
what apps?
low latency
high bandwidth
both?
dividers ok yes/no
are you going for a max overclock?
do competively compete in sisoft sandra?

quite frankly unless you are into competitive benchmarking it makes little difference just running appplications and games
go for 2mb valueram
less than $200
be happy

lots of threads on memory- read em

Sorry about that. I will definately look into that, thank you.

Anyone else have any good words to say about OCZ? I've never personally heard anything about them other then what Anandtech said about them in the 955x vs Nforce 4 comparison

Well...I'm going to be doing some heavy gaming, web surfing, and word processing work work and such. As far as the rest of what you mentioned...sorry I'm really new to the OC'ing so not really understanding all that...it's greek to me

Did all these people recommending 1-3 year longetivity uprade paths and overpriced 1GB low latency sticks simply forget the fact that DDR2 will be the AMD standard in less than a year? All DDR400 is going to be like SDRAM today in 1-3 years.

There's no point in investing that much, go value RAM with DDR1, and unless you're heavily using Photoshop or 3D Studio Max, 2GBs is going to be overkill..

Based on what you just stated, I would go with a FX-57 over a X2 4800+.

Thanks everyone...I went ahead and ordered my memory...

I ended up getting the OCZ that Starman recomended because of the low latency and from what a few other threads were saying as well about that. It was a toss-up between then OCZ and the Corsair I mentioned...just didn't know what way to go.

I appreciate everyones input and just wanted to say thanks...

I've got shipping
1 AMD Athlon X2 4800+
1 ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
1 Set OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM (PC 3200) Platinum Spreaders

now I'm sitting here debating on wether or not I should order from work the other BFG 6000GT OC or not! LOL
