Got 4gb setup, but e350 APU is no i5, so I want to keep the resources/system load on it as small as possible. Any advice on a decent antivirus software that's not bloated and will not interfere with my day to day usage?

thanks

Microsoft Security Essentials is pretty lightweight and is a solid AV. Plus, you can configure the scanner so that it doesn't use more than x% (where x = 0 to 100) of the CPU when its running.

Edit:
I've got it running on all 3 of my machines, plus my parents' 2 desktops (an old XP desktop and a near copy of my X4 rig). Never had a problem on any of them with MSSE.

security essentials is great...

the team that made it used to make something called RAV , romainian antivirus in 2003. I remember because i was working for symantec's virus analsys lab in 2004 and some other group ran benchmarks on it, noting it caught just as much if not more viruses and it was lighter weight.

i have it on all my system since well its free and comes with licensed windows. 5th'd

Interesting. Thanks. I had the first iteration of MS Essentials on my GF's desktop but after some virus trouble ended up moving it to free version of Avast 6.0, which has worked well as far as I can tell. Thought that was gonna get some votes. The problem is that Avast has no way to limit CPU usage. It's not intrusive, but would like to have more control.

In terms of performance, the most recent comparison ranks Avira/Kaspersky above Avast/Microsoft. http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/ondret/avc_od_feb2011.pdf

Any other opinions?

MSSE is what I use on my Lenovo T510. Never a problem.

I also use Security Essentials.
X220 Thinkpad, currently only with 2GB RAM. Will upgrade soon but has been running well.

I used to run NOD32 as it was known as the lightest on resource usage, while being at the top of the pack on detection rates. They've remained solid over the years, but last time my subscription ran out they didn't run any sale for months, and I won't pay more than $10 - $20 for an AV program (I always caught NOD32 on a sale for like $10 on Newegg so continued to buy it).

I run MSSE now.

I know that we have Trend on all of our x100e's and they don't seem to be bogged down. And the x120e is much faster than the x100e.

We will most likely be running it on our x120e's that are coming.

So far even with little kids ranging from K-5 Trend has been awesome with them.

Update: Setup up MSSE... works great. Already had something detected whilst unzipping a file. Otherwise it's totally unobtrusive. Thanks all for the feedback.
