Ordered my Newegg 1600+ yesterday(help me out)

Should get it next Tuesday or so but not sure considering this is the first time buying from newegg. I mainly got one to try to hit the 1750/1800Mhz mark. I currently have a 1.4Ghz which this upgrade is almost pointless but by the time I sell it I would only be a few bucks in a upgrade so I figured this would a good deal?

Anyway my question is what is the easiest way to unlock one of these? I prefer not to have to buy a unlocking kit if possible. I unlocked a Athlon and Duron in my time but of course that was with a pencil and it cant be done with these XP chips. I read toms hardware article on how to unlock them and saw the video but it looked confusing to me and hard. I do have a conductive pen but which is the best way to fill in the grooves in-between the bridges?

Oh yeah I will be overclocking with a Shuttle AK31a 3.1 and Cruicial PC2100. Is this a good combo has anyone got any good speeds out of a AK31a?

Thanks

Was told the pencil trick doesnt work with the XP. Wouldnt it be much easier to fill the gaps in with whatever conductive liquid your using rather than superglue? Just the thought of having to use a razor on it scares me.

noo noooooo
don't do that
if you get any conductive stuff in those gaps you ground out the bridges and the proc won't work
you hafta put an insulating material in there
you can use super glue, a crayon, silicon, or anything else you feel will work
then you need something other than a pencil to connect the actual dots
the best thing for this is some kinda conductive paint
you can get a circuit writer pen that does this at places like Fry's electronics or your local electronics store
you can also look into a rear window defogger kit which comes with conductive paint and is sold at some autoparts stores
those two are the best and work
you'll need to mask off the bridges with scotch tape and connect them one at a time
be carefull that they don't connect from bridge to bridge
and don't scratch the surface of the cpu package cause you can uncover the copper grounding plate (the same one that is in the gap) which can ground yur connection
once you get the materials this shouldn't take but 20 minutes to do if that
but it is exacting so take yur time and don't rush
if it don't work just clean everything off and start over

welp have fun

dont put anything conductive in the gaps!! the gaps have a copper ground inside, so DONT do that.. thats y everyone uses a non-conductive material inside... i just got my AGOIA xp1600 today, and am planning to unlock it, but i need to make sure my method will work... i posted it in the Sudhian forum..

"...im afraid of using any superglue method and thought this might work...

fill the laser-locks with thermal compound, then using strips of aluminum foil and clear tape to connect the bridges

yes/no?

easiest method i could think of other than that is the trace pen method, but i think that would require me using superglue or something else that hardens. "

i taped the bridges, filled hte gaps with super glue, then used a conductive pen to bridge the gaps, worked the first time i tried it

i doubt the aluminum strips would be able to properly conduct the current by just sitting on top of the dots
also another thing you could use to fill the gaps would be fingernail polish (which can be removed with fingernail polish remover)
i used silicon glue for mine (i was able to peel it off when i wanted to remove it)

AMD knows ppl will want to overclock why don't they release a batch of CPU's thats unlocked and just simply charge more for the unlocked ones? Sounds like a money maker to me.

I had that combo with a unlocked 1ghz Morgan and could go 155fsb, the ram runs now@166fsb on my 8K3A so I know it didn't hold me back so i think it was my network card (never tried pulling it out to confirm due to laziness) anyways an unlocked 1600+ should do well in there. BTW,1 of the guys who was banned recently (WA261 or something was his handle) had a 1900+@1.9ghz in the AK31A if I recall correctly. Good luck and post results 🙂

OK, I have here "Touch-Up Paint" for my Acura Integra. It's in Silver Color, is this going to work?

I'm no expert on auto paint but I don't think it would have the electrical conductivity necessary. As mentioned the paint from a rear window defogger repair kit works great.
