It arrives today.

So, do I open it and take it for a test drive or just leave it all boxed and let him open it on his birthday!?

The temptation... :)

My room mate's brother owns 4 of those things. Can't say im not tempted to go outside and playfight with them. The sabers even make their own noises so you dont have to :)
Do you know which ones he has?

Way cool!

Definitely on my 'get' list. I'm in danger of getting one for myself now, mabye even collecting them all.

I think my Bro will be pleased :)

Have to put it away now!

We sell these at my work. So far one person has bought one. They are the most retarded things ever.

saber is no good if you can't use full force when play flighting. it'll probably break if i tap it against my buttocks.

uh, i whack people with my friend's saber all the time. it's not very fragile at all. quite hardy, in fact.

I have a Master Replicas lightsaber. It was given to me last Christmas. Totally cool gift for a Star Wars geek. :) I have the Luke Skywalker version. The effects are quite well done.

A friend has both the Anakin Skywalker and Mace Windu sabers.

Yeh, I don't have a problem w/letting him know. Had to put batteries in and check it out ya know? Besides, when he opens it, it'd be much more fun to just turn it on than to hunt for batteries. I respect the 'never been touched' aspect of a unique gift - but for those kind of clams and because I know my brother I don't think it'll be that big of deal.

He's going to be in shock that I got him something of that nature in the first place.

including shipping? Good price. If I buy one for myself I'll likely look around; but most of the e-tailers listing the item are out of stock (including Borders). Even Master Replicas is in backorder status on all the sabers. So considering the timing of my purchase and my not wanting to play shipping tag with online vendors I am quite comfortable with the purchase. Worth every penny.

I had actually browsed a forum where FX Lightsaber owners were discussing 'dueling'. Other than scratches on the polycarbonate there weren't any complaints about using them in pretty agressive sword play. For the cost though, I don't know that I'd be inclined to find out for myself. I'd be content to respect the manufacturer disclaimer. No need to treat it with kidd gloves, but then no need to go MacLeod with it either. It's cool enough as it is.
