I bought Windows Media Center Edition 2005 (OEM) w/ Vista upgrade coupon.

I am going to install it on this PC I am using now. When I get the Vista upgrade I was going to build a new system and install it on that (most likely completely new, nothing re-used from this one, except maybe a DVD Burner).

Will I encounter problems when trying to install it on the new build?

I would assume not, but the way people talk about OEM is that you can only install it on one PC and then the disk self-destructs :p (not literally but something to that affect).

I know by the terms and stuff that you can only put it on one machine and only that machine. But I'll probably go back to XP Pro on this system and put MCE + Vista on the new system. I just wanna mess around with MCE 'til I get Vista.

I hope that makes sense, and that it is not an overly discussed topic here as to start a flame war on myself :p

Thanks for any info and input.

Well the only problem may happen when you call in to get it activated.

If your unlucky they won't do it. There is a very good reason why the 'oem' license is cheaper then 'retail'.

I hope that you don't have a problem like I did. When I installed MCE OEM very recently from a new set of disks that I bought, the second disk was corrupt and would not install. Since it is OEM, both MS and the vender refused to make anything right.

MS used to replace "unbranded" OEM discs, and if you would have purchased the software from a reputable vendor they should replace it as well.

Seeker, any chance you can just borrow a CD from a friend to complete the install ? You aren't using their key, just the media itself. I bought this OEM MCE2005 as well from the Egg, but I'm sitting on it until others have tried the upgrade process. I want MCE on my SFF rig, but its a bit slow to run Vista so I may need to get more RAM. I'm in for two copies of Vista for free anyhow, so no rush on my part to submit the upgrade yet.
