Ordered canceled. Now what to do?

My Athlon 2600 got canceled. They say they can't get the 266 FSB version anymore. They sell a 2600 MP. I know this is meant for multiple processor systems, but would it work on a single processor motherboard? Would it be the same speed as the XP?

was it bzboyz.com? If so are they trying to change you alittle bit more for it?

If they are don't do it. It's a rip off, get a Barton 2500+ from NewEgg instead. That is unless you want to build a dual-CPU workstation.

It was www.sonicparts.com and yes, their MP costs a little more, by about $20 I think.

Will the 2500 barton run at 266 FSB?

I was wanting to get the fastest processor possible in my old 266 motherboard.

If your motherboard has a 266 bus then the barton will not run on it (It is a 333 processor).

What motherboard do you have?

As a side note, if anyone here has a 2600 266 FSB that they would like to sell, let me know. I'm getting desperate 😛

a barton will run it, but it will run it at 266

however, it will no longer be a barton 2500+ but a barton 1900+

Those 266 fsb 2600's are rare but findable; I just rechecked a couple of places which were selling them 2 months ago and nada, sorry.

Might consider a 2400 instead? And o/clock it a tad.

the athlonxp (thorton) will be available soon, and they run on a 266mhz fsb

the thorton is just a barton with some disabled cache which gives it the same specs as the tbred... the reason amd is doing this is so they only have to make one core for the athlonXP line. barton is high end and thorton is to be the low end that replaces the tbred
