Yes I've officially lost my mind. Should be here Monday or Tuesday for some 690 vs 670 SLI testing.

Don: All I can say is you are surely doing your part to stimulate the economy. WOW let us know how that GTX 690 works out and looks.
On a serious note, my sympathy to your fiance and you on your loss. When you do have a child all of this "fun stuff computers" will pale in comparison to those precious little ones.
You are working hard at 2 jobs and deserve to have fun. My advice? For every new purchase stick at least $25 more in a bank account for diapers. You are going to change more of them than you change video cards.

I doubt it. I'd want Quadfire and Amd has horrible xfire issues

I'd expect both of them to fetch it and some 7970's for tri or quad fire -_-

670's are IMO the best card available today and can take on anything you throw at it especially overclocked. Do not be afraid at all.

I think water is a waste with those cards personally, they're just amazing cards even with factory cooling.

Plus the 690 is a work of art, I would remove that it probably costs $100 to make lol.

I would not get the Koolance or XSPC blocks, garbage toys. Wait for the Heatkiller "holed" version or go with hydrocoppers like I did. They will be on the website real soon btw.

Aside from that the card is a mad overclocker and unlike the 590 it's true SLI performance. Not quite there out of the box but when pushed just a little it matches it with aplomb. Watercooling them is beneficial if you're shooting the moon on o/c because temps will soar and cause it to throttle unless you don't mind running the fan at 100% all the time or you live in a really cold room. Brrrrr!

The 7990 is around the corner but AMD is fail with xfire and their lousy drivers. Stutter city. The drivers on the 7 series still have serious issues. The card also has issues with EVGA SRX dual socket 2011 boards which I'm not sure if they will be solved on either side.

The stock cooler looks nice but I'd rather have it piped in with the rest of the components. Just silly to have an air cooled graphics card on a full water system. IMHO

I've tried all those "heavy as a brick" coolers and nothing approaches the temp of a real w/c setup. I'm not talking about Corsair H something (toy) or Swiftech kits. High end water with large radiators and industrial pumps. Had to, using several dual socket hex core Xeon systems overclocked to 4.8GHz with 1.35 Vcore. At full load (folding) with high end air (silver arrow) temps would hit over 90C and the system would lock up. On the current system at full load (WCG) temps run in the mid 40s. Water temp is the same as the room temp.

Bottom line is the heat pipes just don't have the capacity to effectively keep the bottom plate cool as it needs to be. If you're not pushing it as hard the temps will be much lower, but once you hit that critical point it takes off hockey stick all the way until the throttle kicks in or it crashes.

Once you go (real) water it's hard to go back especially on a system that needs wc. EVGA SR2 boards have a joke for onboard chipset cooling as well. I don't care for listening to fans roaring unless it's my whole house fan but that's more of a rumble than a hum.

Back to the topic of the 690 I wish they would stop bragging about the number of CUDA cores this thing has because the instructions per core is way down on this one. The 580/590 will blow it away if you intend to use prime grid GPU, for example.

If you like to blast away at games, currently the 690 is top dog, make no mistake about it. Even if the 7990 makes longer lines in the graphs I'm willing to bet the barn it will still "feel" much slower. Adaptive vsync FTW.
