Websites view this as full blown Windows computer correct? So I should be able to use Hulu, watch Sunday night football on NBC, etc? And zero problem with XBMC for Windows?

I had XBMC installed with no issue.

There is a Win8 HuluPlus app, so that is probably preferable. But you can just dump out to the desktop and play it in a browser.

I would say it's a mixed bag. Somebody explained it earlier but in the "Modern" mode of IE it's parsed down and not considered a full browser.

And even in desktop mode IE is kinda gimped. Chrome on the other hand appeared to be fully functional in desktop mode although it's not as refined for a touch interface as IE was.

That is pretty nice. I might be more tempted to buy a Venue 8 Pro again if there were these great deals on the 64GB model too though. Seems it's still stuck at $350.

Picked up 32gb one from Walmart. I like it and don't like it at the same time.

like: Runs real windows. I installed XBMC and Steam. Both worked great. I was able to plug in Xbox360 controller and play games no problem.

no fan. Back of the tablet gets bit warm but at least I don't have to deal with fan noise.

microSD slot. The tablet only had like 10 gb free out of the box. I added Samsung 64gb microSD card and instantly had another 58gb free on the D drive. I installed the Steam games on the microSD.

dislike: I don't like the feel of the circle textured back. Feels rough and sort of uncomfortable.

Windows 8.1 feels unfinished and Metro/desktop combo is cumbersome. It's fun to tinker with but two modes lead to frustration. Whole experience feels unpolished.

low resolution. Grainy texts was the first thing I noticed after powering it on. I guess I'm used to Nexus 7 (2013) crystal clear text.

My first impression isn't that great and I much prefer using my Yoga 13 laptop. I sort of see Venue Pro 8 as jack of all trades but master of none.

Your first dislike is one of my favorite parts of the Venue 8 Pro. I really love the feel of the circular patterns and that rubber texture. I think it's great. Most of the alternatives are gloss plastic.

The jarring Modern/Desktop seam will go away in time. Well it'll still be there, but you won't notice it after a while. That was my first Windows 8 impression too.

Not sure what the price difference between a 800p panel and crappy digitizer versus a 1080p panel and no digitizer would be. But I would even pay a little extra for the 1080p and no crappy digitizer myself.

I was tempted to buy from Walmart because of the holiday return policy.

I'm holding out for 64GB for $250-ish in early 2014?

The more I'm using W8, the more I'm finding the Metro\Desktop combo not bad at all. I guess I'm just getting used to seamlessly floating between the two.

But I still think 1080p on this screen size is a bad idea. But only in Desktop mode. It would probably work great in Modern though.

Metro/desktop is far better with keyboard and mouse/touchpad. TouchMousePointer program is brilliant and I thank the person who suggested it. Desktop mode is usable with that program.

This tablet is fast and Intel did a fabulous job with the processor in this thing. I haven't noticed a lag anywhere. Everything feels fast and snappy.

But I don't know where this tablet fits in with me. I rather grab Yoga 13 when I want to use Windows 8.1. 13 inch screen is nicer for work and it has keyboard and touchpad. It can also turn into a bigger tablet. If I want something smaller like the Venue 8, I rather grab the Nexus 7 most of the time. I don't think this can replace Nexus 7 for me. I'm not in IT and I don't need or use MS Office. It's a tinkering toy for me at the moment and I don't know if that's enough reason to keep even with the cheap price.

Yeah Dell/MS is in an awkward place with people being heavily entrenched in the Apple/Android ecosystems and having troubles clawing away market share.

It looks like they are trying to flood out devices with the dirt cheap prices. Really, for $230 that the 32 gig ones are going for that's a crazy amount of hardware and software you are getting. When you look at this device, the hardware it comes with, the build of it, and the software licensing you are paying for...it's hard not to get mad at the total fleecing we are taking on mobile phones. Is something like a $600 Galaxy S4 *really* worth nearly $400 more than this device?

To me this device is sort of like what the Nexus tablets were at the time they were introduced. They weren't going to dominate a market. They weren't going to make Apple quiver in their boots. They were an option that was reasonably priced, and just something "different".

As more of these get out, people start reading the reviews (which are mostly quite positive) and you see them out and about more they'll gain some traction. Maybe it's the bump developers needed to start getting more apps out in the Windows store.

Will be interested to know just how many of these Dell sells in the first month.

So I figured I'd post an update with one month of solid use of this thing.

I love it. I wasn't able to get the stylus due to the production being faulty and backordered during my holiday return to the states... so I can't confirm or deny the trouble that they were having, nor do I know if things on that front have improved.

What I do use this for is all mobile computing. I've typed up a good 60 essay pages (with a bt keyboard.... I'm not insane), made more than a few power points, and have switched to using the Venue 8 pro over my 2013 nexus 7 for media consumption and browsing as well.

I am using it exclusively... I can't remember a time I've actively picked up the nexus instead of the venue, nor can I remember a time I wish I were using the nexus. The only thing I feel like I'm missing is the convenience of the qi charging capabilities of the nexus.

In short... don't use or miss the nexus 7 2013 at all, less the qi charging.. Love the venue 8 pro as it's more productive and for my use case win 8.1 desktop > android's superior apps

id like the venue but cant justify it, and i wont be able to get much for my transformer infinity i think. kinda annoyed that as fast as it was supposed to be it seems a little slow now.

we have a latitude 10 at work...sucks balls. old atom processor and 2gb of ram. sometimes its just ok, the rest of the time its frustratingly slow. the venue has gotten good reviews and id gladly take that over an android tablet, im pretty sure
