Has anybody else had to deal with this before? I'm on hold with Newegg at the moment, waiting to speak to somebody about it.

UPS claims they left the package at the front door, however I never got it. The house it was delivered to (my parents place - I'm in the process of moving and had it sent there specifically so I wouldn't have to risk losing it int he shuffle) is in a rather nice part of town, with the houses set back a fair length from the street, you could see the front step form the road, but I have a hard time believing that somebody would be cruising the neighborhood looking for packages, pulling into the driveways, and stealing things, especially in the middle of the day, with an elementary school right down the street.

In my completely baseless opinion, UPS never delivered it.

Am I going to be SOL on this one, or do you think Newegg or UPS will be able to work with me?

UPDATE 4/2/08 - Called in again last night after reading online that the turnaround time on the UPS claim was 7-10 days, rather than the 3-5 that I had been told. The guy I spoke to confirmed that 7-10 days was the right timeframe, and offered to escalate it within the claims group for me, and e-mail me after doing so. Haven't heard from him yet (16 hours).

I'm now completely gaming-computer-less, as my old one was parted out to friends/craigslist, under the assumption that I was receiving the upgrade via overnight shipping. Damnit all.

They left a $750 package with no signature required? I know... at least for fedex... over $500, the option for signature required is...well... required.
UPS must pay....

When did it say it was delivered? I've had this happen a couple times and found that the next day it showed up. I figure its UPS drivers covering their asses by scanning packages as delivered even though they didn't get around to it.

UPS=crap when it comes to that stuff

However Newegg will most likely tell you its UPS issue, not theirs. Newegg might be able to help you though get to UPS and get UPS to refund the amount or magically "find" the package.

Either way I would be b*tching up a storm with UPS, until they got me my package or refunded the amount. I don't care which.

Happens to me sometimes with parts for work. I'll get to the office and there will be a package sitting in front of the door. Expensive parts, too. I know not many people like 'em, but DHL has never left a package like that.

This happened to me once. I bought some memory and according to the FedEx or UPS website they said it was left at my front door. Then I remembered that as I was leaving for work in the morning I saw some contractors working at my next door neighbor's house and I remember thinking, "Gosh, I hope the UPS guy didn't just leave it there in front of those contractors". When I arrived home later that day, there was nothing on my front porch. To this day, I am positive that one of those contractors took my package.

Finished checking every possible door around the house, no luck.

Got disconnected with Newegg at first, on hold again now.

Yeah I would have preferred a signature be required, but to be fair, I've had plenty of other orders left outside the front door before without issue, some considerably more expensive than this. Certainly didn't see this coming.

The parts were: 2 9600 GTs, an Athlon X2 5200+, an Arctic Cooler 7, 8 gigs of RAM and a motherboard.

Well someone else probably has a nice system now.

What i'm thinking is UPS driver possibly might still have it or they delivered it to a neighbor.

Got off the phone with Newegg, they're filing a claim with UPS for a refund, and will email me in 3-5 days.

No sure if I should re-order now, like the woman I spoke with encouraged me to do, or if I should wait till I know for sure I'm getting the refund, just in case they try to claim that they're not at fault.

I would wait. Unless you have the cash to cover another $750 until it gets resolved.

How painful are refund requests from Newegg to UPS?? That should weigh in on your decision to reorder those parts.

Ouch, I would hate to lose that.

My order was for 4 sticks -- I think it came out to almost $320 or something. I was pissed because it came with a huge rebate but luckily I was able to get the rebate without having to send in the UPC code so I only lost much less.

I'd say re-order when you get your refund and make sure to use Fedex

Was pretty painless for me to do it, no idea what's going to happen now, i'm hoping UPS just signs off on it and gets me my money.

I'm afraid though that UPS will drag it out, call me up and argue with me, or just flat out refuse the refund.

So yeah, I suppose I should probably wait.

Pity, I was hoping to finally be able to run games at my 24" LCD's native resolution. 2 gigs RAM and a 7900 GS just doesn't cut it.

Yikes, I hope you get it all.

I ordered it next-day shipping, it was supposedly delivered around mid-afternoon last Friday.

if possible try to get the name of the person that helped you today so you can continue this directly with her and her superior when you need to contact them again. that way its less of a hassle.

i really hope UPS guy just put it as delivered and it will show up later today .

good luck :(

Newegg can claim all they like, it's up to the drivers discretion to leave a package at the front door or not as long as no signature was required.

If he felt the neighborhood was safe and the package would not be tampered with, once he drops the package off, their liability ends there.

I have no clue why AT hates UPS so much, they are every bit as reliable as Fedex nationwide.

She gave me her e-mail address, I'm supposed to e-mail her when I re-order the parts to get up to $50 of my shipping fees waived.

Aside from the fact that my fvcking package seems to be MIA, I'm overall really pleased with Newegg's customer service. I charged my 2 bluetooth headsets last night and cleared my calendar this morning, expecting to be on the phone with them for hours arguing about this. It was surprisingly painless (thus far).

Maybe they'll get e8400's in stock by the time my claim goes through and I re-order the parts. I'd hate to have to research motherboards all over again, but the money I'll be saving on shipping will bump the e8400 into my price range... :)

That in there lies the issue. They should never assume that a package will be safe alone on the front door step. It should be no signature, all liability. Signature, limited liability as long as they can prove with whom they left the package (i.e street address, phone and name of person left with)
