I have yet to see the 6800 for sale now, I've been looking for weeks, pricewatch & newegg have no information, newegg doesn't even have the x800 yet but it is listed in pricewatch.

$500 is a tad ridiculous for dx9 hardware I think but for dx9, it's about as fast as it gets

Of course I'm still waiting for the price drop on current/soon to be old generation :frown:

500.00 for the X800pro? I cant see anyone paying that much for the 12 pipe version when you will be able to get a 6800 12 pipe for 299.00. 201.00 less. I dont get why the pro is so expensive.

Its not. You can't say something is expensive just because ONE store overprices it. I can sell you a Radeon 9800 Pro for 500 bucks, are you going to say its expensive based on MY price?

Do you buy from bestbuy or Compusa for Radeon 9800 Pros right now, or do you shop Newegg? I thought not.

I dont know who you were talking to, but I posted that I saw the pro for 400 instead of 500. But I also asked why anyone would pay 400.00 for a 12 pipe card When the 12 pipe 6800 will debut at 299.00.
6800U 16 pipe will be 499.00
6800GT 16 pipe will be 399.00
6800 12 pipe will be 299.00

This was seen on one of the review sites and I cant remember which one. I will see if I can trudge through them again.

And no, you couldn't sell me a 9800pro for 500 bucks. The sites that are asking 500 bucks for the pro are on crack on steroids. The sites selling it for 400.00 will have trouble justifying that price when you not only be able to get a 6800 12 pipe for 100.00 less, but can get the 6800GT 16 pipe for the same price.

Because its faster? the pro competes with reg 6800. Its the same thing with engines. some I4 engines produce more horse power than V6 engines. For example the Tiburon V6 engine is weak and the older Italian I4 engine produce so much more power.

Well, even though it hasn't been benched anywhere yet, I would have to agree with you that it would appear that the X800pro will be somewhat faster than the 12 pipe 6800. But is it a hundred dollars faster?

And besides, how much would you have to pay for a Hyundai engine and how much would you pay for the Italian 4 cyl. Your analogy cuts both ways.

I mean, at the rate these prices are going, it makes sense that ATI will probably set the x800SE 8 pipe card at 299.00. All cards appear to be 100.00 dollars different in price per model. So now we have a 299.00 6800 12 pipe and a 299.00 X800SE 8 pipe. Which would you choose?

As far as we know, the X800SE will just be a rebadged 9800XT or 9800 pro and have the same DDR1 memory.

Wow, pretty touchy subject apparently! I'm interested but not sweating the high prices until the insane "brand spankin new" buzz wears off on these. Yes they are fast, but why pay 300-500 for something that will be half of that give a couple months to a year if they even take that long as well as the cards will be made better by then, I think they are trying to throw these out the door faster than they should due to competition. I'll wait a couple of months to have a cheaper, better board!
