Order of operations in setting up a webpage

I am planning to register a domain name and select a web host for my new website. What are the order of operations in doing this? Is the following list missing anything? It no doubt is, as this is the first time I've ever done this...

1. Register domain name.
2. Sign up for web host plan.
3. Point domain name to web host location.

Again, I've never done this before so the above list is probably wrong. Would someone with more experience tell me what order to go through?
