Order of Installation

Is there a certain order for which I should connect and install a network? I recently bought a Motorola SB51000 cable modem and a DI 624 D-link Wireless router. I tried to do connect it all at once but nothing happened. I was wondering if there was a certain order I had to install everything to get my cable internet up and running.

I forgot to add that one of the computers is going to be run off of CAT 5 wiring, a Dell, and the second computer will be running off of the wireless, apple ibook. I don't know if it makes a difference.

Same here. My SMC Barricade (not wireless) router finally die on me yesterday after 4 years of use, and all my 6 pc's can't get on the internet because they are not getting an IP address from the router's DHCP server. Luckily I have a brand new one w/wireless for backup. Took it out of the box, configure it over the network and within minutes I was back up and running. So make sure you configure the router (internal network) first and that they can ping each other and then configure the WAN (connecting the cable modem to the router).

Must be background dependent. I'm a TelCo installer. Usually, for me, it is a case of adding a router/LAN to an existing BB connection. I set up WAN connectivity first and then worry about the LAN. Once one computer is working thru the router/modem adding the others is generally easy.

Hmm...well...I retried it. The first time I had it correct but couldn't get past this one screen. So, I thought I did something wrong and tried to fiddle with router settings. I didnt get back to that point. Well, I retried it this weekend following someone advice to get the network setup. I believe I have that all setup now because I have a shared folder in my networks on both the lappy and the desktop. It is a problem with my connection. I have to call Adelphia..*Woohoo 😛 * and ask for help from them. I wonder if they really even flipped the switch to let me use BB.
