Order in which to install drivers when reinstalling OS?

Had to reload windows XP due to a huge armageddon that took place on my harddrive, but I forgot which order to load drivers in to ensure a problem free fresh install.

I think it's upon hitting desktop, install chipset, directx, video, sound, then networking, but i want confirmation.

-thanks

1) OS service packs

2) DirectX (if you install SP2 on WinXP, then you've got DX9.0C and skip this)

3) Chipset (often takes care of network drivers too)

4) Video and other (audio, etc)

That's what I'd suggest.

I heard rumors that installing microsoft's updates via their auto update feature has a pretty bad habit of wrecking your machine upon reboot...is it common for people to not even bother with the microsoft updates and disabling the autoupdate feature?

Reason why I'm asking this is because it happened to me once, but seems like after doing a bit of reading, it's more common than I'd like to see.

It would increase your risk substantially to not apply the Microsoft updates at all. If you don't want it done automatically, then visit Windows Update on the second Thursday of every month, which is Microsoft's routine day for releasing patches. You can also enable the Automatic Updates in just the "alert me" mode, and then update manually when you're alerted. If MS does release a patch off-schedule, it's probably extra-important and you will want to be alerted to its availability.

I haven't seen a pattern of Automatic Updates nuking systems around here, so if it were me, I'd enable it in full automatic mode.
