Orcs Must Die 3 is now free open beta, on Steam.

Its actually called Orcs Must Die Unchained.

Looks like they went pay-to-win.
Base game free, 50 bucks for DLC that gets you not very much at all.

Previous games were 20 bucks NEW, and provided buttloads of fun.
I'll let you know how this one turns out.

OK, not looking good so far.

An account is required, so is logging in every time you play.
They dont tell you this on the Steam page.

alright, every time you complete a round the game engine exits and you go back to the desktop app. I assume this will not be the case in the finished game.

Performance is abysmal. On the minimum settings at 1280x720 its basically unplayable on a GTX 760. Again, I should hope this improves with patching.

I thought this had come out ages ago.

It was a bad idea a few years ago, and it's become a much worse idea since then.

I admit that there isn't a lot of longevity within the OMD storyline. OMD1 introduced us to the hero. OMD2 expanded on that with a twist. But maps were still pretty much the same and gameplay was still very similar: kill orcs with devices and your personal weapon.

I would have much rather they stayed with that concept and released an OMD3. Single Player with Coop. Create some new levels, twist the story a bit more (marriage and then divorce?....a spurned ex is a powerful villain), create some new and interesting ways to kill orcs.....that would have been enough for me to buy it.

But this P2W MMO? No thanks.
