Orbitz.com bait and switch?

This morning I tried to purchase a ticket from Orbitz.com from Kansas City (MCI) to Seattle (SEA). The initial search showed that there were tickets available at $398.00, but when I clicked on them, it said "Because flight availability can change rapidly based on traveler demand, the flight you selected is no longer available. Please make another selection. (Message 100)" when I click on Book It. Then, I figure, well, that was a low price, I'll go to the next step up, which was $423.00 and wouldn't you know, same message. I click on every listing for that price, same message every time (there were about 6 listings at the time). Out of curiosity, I click on the $600+ selection and wouldn't you know it? That was available. That was with Continental. I then try selecting the lowest price on NorthWest and again, same message until I click on the tickets listed that are over $500 again and those are available.

Now, this wouldn't be so bad if there weren't multiple listings for the ~$400 tickets and none of them work. It wouldn't be that bad if a few hours later I check back and the same low price tickets are listed and are still unavailable. This seems like a scam to me. Anyone else have similar experience?

BTW, ended up checking Expedia and Travelocity and both had prices close to the mid-level Orbitz price, making me believe that they put the lowest price ones there as a decoy and then tell people they were suddenly and quickly taken by other shoppers. Play with their site and tell me if the same thing happens to you on either my route or another.

I just went through this last night. I don't think it's bait & switch as much as them not having the latest info from the air carriers. They probably only update a few times a day. So you click on a flight, they check the "real" availability on that plane, and then you get the infamous message 100. I went through about 20 flights before I found one. Fvckers got me for $700 from LA to Hartford for Christmas.

Keep in mind that Continental, Northwest and Delta have a code sharing agreement, so even if its listed as a NW flight it mabe on a Continental plane and visa versa. United and US Airways have a similar agreement.
