2 terms? Nah, 3! (Then Go on vacation!)

H.J.Res.29 - Proposing an amendment to the Constitution of the United States to provide that no person shall be elected to the office of the President more than three times.119th Congress (2025-2026) | Get alerts

I don't understand. Would you not first have to repeal or rescind or erase or whatever the terminology would be, the 22nd amendment?

Otherwise this one would be redundant, as it's already disallowed to be elected more than twice, which means adding a further amendment saying someone can't be elected more than three times would serve no purpose. Logically, "more than three times" is included in "more than twice", so this doesn't add anything other than duplicating the existing bar on being elected more than three times.

I think the implication is that the 2 term amendment would go away.

I should’ve been more clear in the OP that MOST SANE PEOPLE understand that this is all a distraction, because any proper investigation by Trump’s DOJ should never result in indictments, and any indictments could never result in convictions thanks to SCOTUS—but we know they’re desperate, we know it won’t be a proper investigation, and we know SCOTUS plays Calvinball—so how far can this really go is the question? Anyone betting against Trump is playing against the house money at this point, and the house always seems to find a way to cheat and win.

Honestly I'm surprised they don't just try to repeal it entirely anyway, obviously from the "strict traditionalist" viewpoint they pretend to adhere to when it suits their needs, there wasn't originally a limitation on terms so that's the way it should be now, just drop the charade since we all know what the end game is.

Naw that turd has been claiming that he was going to file the amendment since the day he was elected.... I doubt it has anything to do with much more than he trying to gain Trump's favor.

Finally the government dealing with the real threat to national security.

Good tacos
I discovered good tacos in West Los Angeles kind of by accident many years ago. I happened upon a tiny Mexican food joint situated on a corner, unaffiliated, not part of a chain or anything. They had carne asada tacos, so delicious (I'd never heard of carne asada before). I revisited them quite a few times, always getting the carne asada tacos, what a revelation. I wonder if the masked storm troopers have sent them back to Mexico.

Wait, they can't do that without an amendment to the constitution.
I suspect this is just fluffing, even if it were to pass, it seems unlikely to be ratified by 38 states.
Seems? No way in the world.

Didn't y'all know that Trump engaged in statutory rape at Epstein's accommodations? There's testimony from a victim I've heard more than once. And from what we know about Donald and his scruples it's obvious that it's right up his alley. This makes Bill Clinton's dalliance with an aid look like nothing.

Trump does all manner of crimes against democracy and the nation then simply denies it. If accusations with corroborating evidence proves his complicity, he throws his legions of lawyerly stooges at it with the mission of burying it all under an avalanche of esoteric entrepreneurial legalese updated with daily/hourly/by the minute divertive fancy footwork coming out of a sewer pipe hole that used to be Trump's mouth.

His deflector shields also have the ability to confound, inflame, reflect and project accusatory ordnance right back to their delivery systems with amusing accuracy. And wonders of wonders, he's armed his Sycophant Corps with that same skill set. Fuck me, we're all going to be assimilated. Game over.

Not so fast...

"When you make your peace with authority, you become an authority." -Jim Morrison, 1966

There's no way Trump will assimilate me, I despise him.

Why repeal the 22nd when they can just conveniently ignore like they have the 1st, 4th, 5th, 14th?
It won't be so easy to ignore. States can refuse to put him on the ballot for primaries or the general and with excellent reasoning and cause. You think the Supremes will rule in his favor on that one? Hah.

States already tried this approach with the 14th amendment/insurrection issue, and the Court said they can't do that, and it would be on Congress to accept or reject the person people voted for (of course we know that would be an utterly laughable idea given the anemic approach that Congress takes to exercising its power)

This is so damning ... deconstruction of the US one tariff at the time..

Yea, he came up with this ALL ON HIS OWN ... but this being a "national security issue" smells like the work of Tulsi.

The fact that he can find people to do his dirty work, people so desperate for validation of their lives that they will be absolute monsters just to feel the satisfaction of being above the rest (in power if not in intellect), is the real problem. These people would otherwise not even be fit for garbage disposal duties because they would object to being the garbage employee of a low income or non-white neighborhood.

Here's Schiff wrapping up Trump's swinging a wrecking ball at our nation's stability, security and reputation in a tidy yet compendious nut shell:

And while I'm at it, the deals Trump's been making to enrich himself and crime family:

Wow. If that doesn't wake up the general public, nothing will.

Trump Tweeted that The Jimmy Kimmel Show & Late Night with Seth Meyers are both being canceled and he hopes he was the reason. After being the reason Stephen Colbert got canceled, somebody needs to stop this fucker. And his idiot cult is in full support of this shit because they say mean things about him.

And for him to blatantly say it was his doing is pretty sad. He's not even trying to pretend he gives a rats ass about the 1st Amendment.
