It's rather scary to think that despite the horrors that Trump and his lackeys have unleashed upon the nation, his ratings haven't tanked proportionate to the damage he's inflicted. Here we have a blatantly obvious agenda being played out by the Party of Trump that's effectively being controlled and operated by the oligarch class of the nation where they are literally going for the biggest grab of the nation's treasures to the accelerating detriment of the working class and half of those folks think it's better to be scammed into servitude and poverty than voting for their own best interests.

The level of denial, hypocrisy and ignorantly derived arrogance these folks must put themselves through and the lack of dissonance shown when their mind fucked beliefs are contradicted by the stark realities of how they are being preyed upon by their supposed leaders is a nightmarish wonder to behold.

I wonder how long it will take them (if ever) to give up the "Give Trump the time he needs to show what a marvelous genius he is at making everyone a millionaire" shtick and face up to the fact that he is conning them into giving up their chances for a better quality of life so that he can enrich himself further at their expense. Some day some psychiatrist is going to coin a phrase that definitively describes what manner of delusion Trump's loyalists have infected themselves with and how they got to be that way. Too bad history has a nasty habit of repeating itself.

How do you deny something you aren’t even aware of? Where are people going to go to get informed? His numbers haven’t cratered because a large portion of American have no idea what’s going on and they never will because they don’t watch the news, they don’t read the news paper, they don’t get news magazines. Their entertainment consists of streaming services and social media. Streaming services don’t have news and social media creates a safe space for them for which uncomfortable things aren’t shown to them and if they are shown to them it’s a quick swipe and it’s gone.

There is no mass denialism, nor a mass cognitive dissonance, only a population of ignorant, unaware people who have no incentive to do anything different. It’s why, for better or worse, the only democrats (and republicans for that matter) that get heard are those who are on social media, either as memes or who are trying to get their message out.

Until we accept that reality, reality won’t be changing.

Sadly Democrats are even less popular than he is.

So he wants the impossible. No raised prices due to tariffs and no cuts to Medicaid despite slashing taxes for the rich. Just a total logjam. What a maroon.

You're not wrong, but the other side of it is that there are a strikingly large number of Americans who are more than ok with his policies and/or who don't care about individual liberties. Whatever this number is, it is way, way higher than anyone here thought possible.

It has "shattered the myth of American exceptionalism," as one reader said in the comments section of a recent NYT article someone posted here.

I feel the same way about the opinion polls showing the massive rise in support for Farrage's (ridiculously-named) Reform Party.

Latest poll puts the Tories in 4th place, behind Reform, Labour, and the Lib Dems. By my crude extrapolation they'll also be 4th even in the aggregated 'poll of polls' within a few weeks. They are being electorally eaten alive by Reform.

I used to complacently think that this country was more-or-less immune to fascism (and all extreme ideologies, really - Stalinism never really caught on here either, last time round). Unlike those crazy Continentals. That's clearly no longer even remotely true.

This President brought to you by Mark Zuckerberg...

Well the current GQP legislative "strategy" is to claim a new round of tax cuts won't cost a penny. They've already hinted that they will just ignore the Senate Parliamentarian if she rules against them.

It's not like the monumental disinformation campaign the Republicans have been running against the Democrats have had any thing to do with that, or does it? If there's one thing the Republicans have found since employing the racist inspired Sothern Strategy to turn the South red, it's that it works nationwide and greasing the skids with hate. fear and suspicion made things work even better while ignoring it on its face that it was a huge factor in popularizing the party's anti-democratic Christo-fascist oligarch led agenda has made things even better yet for the Party of Trump.

Fighting against all of that emotionally driven wreckage are the dull boring facts and stats the Democrats have armed themselves with that debunk every lie, accusation and self-incriminating hypocritical double speak the Trump propaganda and marketing department has been spewing non-stop 24/7 is sadly, a losing proposition.

You do know that without the lies, disinformation, false accusations and the use of racist and politically infected religious dogma the Republicans have been force feeding themselves and the rest of the nation for nigh on decades, all they'd be left with are the damning facts of the matter that they and regrettably the rest of us are being manipulated by their oligarch leadership into supporting their/our own indenture and demise.

Agreed. Add to that these folks you speak of are armed with the ability and willingness to vote, it just makes things that much scarier.

Kyle Kulinski was talking about this yesterday, about how American media is pussyfooting around Trump while international media from free nations is covering the protests against murdering a bunch of poor Americans by killing Medicaid in the GOP's budget.

Republicans want their voter base dumb and uninformed, compound covid brain is a shortcut.
I suppose thinking about it more, they figure they've got the age 65+ bracket locked up, and having already inadvertently thinned their own ranks with people opting out of vaccination, it could disproportionately impact larger metro areas that trend Democratic...

I forget the source but I could swear Trump cleaned up with Gen X (especially Gen X men) while losing ground with the boomer demographic in 2024. Maybe the latter because a bunch of them were killed by his abdication of responsibility during the worst of the pandemic?

IIRC Boomers were somewhat evenly split; I suspect many are rightfully concerned that the GQP is coming for their entitlements.

OTOH Gen. X (amongst other demographics) went for Trump.

How the fuck can 40% approve of his economic "policies"?
In general they believe Trump that the hardship (which haven't hit yet) will be short term and then things will get better - and they will get better ..... for the rich ;)

Look,.you're not wrong.

They spent 40+ years building the infrastructure for this. It's literally insurmountable at this point.
