Excellent. They deserve it.

So of the big games last year, I think most all of them ended up selling pretty well?

Not sure on Bioshock, but Crysis, The Witcher, The Orange Box, COD4, STALKER, and C&C3 sold well.

Unfortunately, UT3 has done very poorly (and although it is not a spectacular game, I think it is great), and ET-Quake Wars did not sell too hot which is a shame too as I found it to be excellent. But at least theres a lot of online players on QW as opposed to UT3.

edit: I was way off. Didn't see the other thread, since before I bunched STALKER with UT3 and Quake Wars as not having sold well which is unfortunate since it is an awesome game, so I fixed that.

How many total sales did The Burning Crusade get? It sold 2.4 Million in the first 24 hours. It's total US sales were over 2.25 Million for last year.

Of course, it should be noted that they are counting PC sales as a la carte. TOB is only available as a full package on consoles. Not that that doesn't mean it didn't sell well on the PC, but the way they are counting sales on the PC is misleading.

Could you guys clear something up for me, please. I have read conflicting reports on the number of units sold for a PC game to be considered "successful." Certainly 1.5 million copies sold of the Orange Box is excellent news.

But what is the dividing line bewtween successful # of copies sold and failure?

There is no hard rule.
If a game sells enough to pay for the development cost its considered succesful.

Most developers keep development cost a secret, so its really hard to tell.

1 million is just a nice sounding number.

A better indicator of how well a game is doing is how its selling compared to other games in the same category.

so orange box is fps, sells 1.5 million , other games in the same category.
Stalker ~ 1.65 million
Crysis sold ~ 1 million
Call of Duty 4 ~ 383K
UT3 ~ 78K

Pretty easy to see who is succesful in the pc fps area.
