Orange Box for 360 thoughts

Bought it today, and played a bit with it. Got pretty far in Portals... that game rocks. Very well thought out and well done. I hope more stuff is released for it as DLC.

Tried a couple games out in TF2. Seems cool enough, but it wasn't running smoothly. I don't know if it was the game, me, or the host's fault, but every game I played I could play for 5-10minutes before it started to studder then drop me saying 'connection to the host was lost'. Happened on 5 or so servers before I gave up.

I only played a bit into Ep. 2. I like the forrest setting, it looks nice. The graphics look very nice on the 360, and I don't think anything was sacrificed from the PC version. Hopefully I get some guns soon, as I'm 10 minutes or so in and all I have is the grav gun. I liked ep 1 enough but I got sick of the grav gun really fast.
 
My main problem playing was the FPS drops. I can't believe they couldn't get such an old engine working perfectly. However, I'm not really one to complain, because my rig can only play it on medium-low, and its looks great on the consoles

I guess it might have been a good thing that it was delayed on the PS3.

It kind of loses its chaotic feeling when played with analogs, because it supposed to be such a fast paced game. I hope it supports KB/M on the PS3.

Overall, one of the better games on the 360.

I think I read something on IGN that said that they did not. I believe they made it sound like it was only in the episodes.

I bought it this morning and starteed playing Portals and that is all I've played cuz it was so fun. This needs DLC for sure.

I've been looking through some forums today and apparently TF2 is laggy as shit. That sucks. Maybe I'll play through all the sp and if they don't fix it I'll just trade it in or something.

I hope they fix this issue. Ive only played 3 games and didn't have any lag. Im going to play some more tonight.

I hope those people were just unlucky. I'll play it when I can pry myself away from portal and puzzlequest.
 
Well I tried some more TF2 and found a couple of good servers. Good as in no lag and/or dropped hosts, but that wasn't with full player load. I think it's pretty fun w/ just 4on4 anyway, and it runs great. Hope it gets running better on standard connections pretty soon as I was having a blast when it was working fine.

Finished the main game of portal. Great ending level and boss fight (yes, there's a boss and it's a puzzle game). The song at the end is hilarious.

It does indeed. I didn't think I was going to like it as I tried out TFC a while back and didn't really care for it. I think them getting rid of grenades made it a lot less hectic and tolerable for folks like me 🙂
 
Considering that yesterday I finally started to figure out how to carry my own weight at Halo 3 MP ("Oh, that's why everyone likes to melee so much..."), I'll probably wait on this one for a bit. But hopefully by the time I jump in these lag issues will be fixed.

Ya like every game I played was full of lag. That sucks cuz the moments it doesn't have lag this is very fun on the console.
 
Does the orange box contain the original HL2 and Episode 1 along with TF2 portal and Ep 2??
I just was playing on the PC last night and I still think this is one of the best looking FPS, (HL2) and portal was the most unique FPS I have played in a long time. cant wait to see what it looks like on the console

Yes, it's 5 games in one package. At the first menu you are presented with the five games. When you highlight one of the options a video showing that game starts playing in the background. The overall package is fantastic.
 
Does anyone here think that the Achievements in TOB are implemented very well ? I do. I love how you can access an achievements list in the in-game menu instead of being required to go through the dashboard. The lists are also superior to the dashboard because you can see the name of the achievement and the requirement(s) of all of them on the list. When you use the list in the dashboard you have to select each individual achievement to see the requirement. Also, I like how achievements which require you to do a certain number of tasks give you an on-screen update of your progress when you complete another part. The only other game I've run across where achievements were implemented so well was Crackdown.

I think the only drawback is that since there are five games, the 1000 points are spread pretty thin between the games.
 
Just read a bunch of reviews of OB - sounds like it's a pretty awesome game/buy. Will have to pick this up. Too many games to play right now 🙁

I may try to get gamefly to send me this game and get it cheaper with my 5.00 coupon + used game price. Halo3 is consuming 100% of my gaming time right now..
with cod4, assassins creed, orange box, etc etc coming out I may have to take the rest of the year off from work 😉

Could be worse...we could be like the PS3 where we have no games to play...just a virtual "Home" to wander around in 😉 I think last year was pretty slim on the 360 in regards to games. Glad we don't have that problem this year.

I'll just be glad to finally play Halo 3 tomorrow night...it's literally been 2 weeks since I've had the time to play XBox 🙁
