I cracked a tooth and i think a nerve might be exposed b/c it's KILLING me!!! I lost my insurance/benefits at work after i was cut to part time, and i filed for dental insurance through my Army unit, but it's not effective until June 1st 🙁

I hope you're not planning on waiting till June 1st to go to the dentist. You might want to read up on how an abscess is formed............

ya, actually i was going to try and wait if i could. I cracked the tooth about 2 months ago, but this past week, it's been near-shooting pain.

ibuprofen helps some, I was on it for several days in a row before getting an appointment to find out I had an abcessed tooth. The root canal was a relief.

If you cracked it about 2 months ago and it didn't hurt that bad then, my guess would be that A) you have either managed to slowly chip more of the tooth away, therefore exposing more of the nerve and/or B) it has an abcess. I had an abcess in a tooth once and that has to be some of the worst pain I've ever experienced. Whew...just thinking about how bad that hurt makes me have to say better you than me. 😀

Good luck!

If you have the tooth pulled then I don't think there will be any roots left to 'canal'. At least that's my understanding. Pull the tooth and the roots go with it. Aside from cost, I'd take a root canal over an extraction any day. I've had one of each, and I absolutely hated the way the extraction went. Ick.

is there any swelling? if so it may be an abcess
i had one about a month ago and it diddnt cost me anything to get rid of except for the clindomycin from the dentist

doesn't appear to be any swelling...just sharp pains. The Orajel is numbing the pain for about an hour, at which point i reapply it.
