Oracle developers - Any freeware TOAD alternatives?

I use the freeware TOAD often for Oracle development, and despite having to download it every three months, it has worked well for me. The latest update seems to have crippled the freeware version further (multiple DB connections are no longer allowed, for instance).

Since a commercial license of TOAD costs over $800, I'm wondering if there are any other free or inexpensive alternatives. All I'm really looking for is Query Analyzer-like functionality and schema browsing capabilities. All suggestions are welcome.

Not sure what you develop in, but Eclispe has a few excellent plugins for DBs. I use one called DBEdit which gives me most of what I need on a day to day basis.
