I was just reminded by a post here of a case mod project I saw a few months back that simply blew my mind. The link takes you to part 5 of a 5 part "walkthrough" which details every step through extremely detailed text and photos. If you wish to follow the mod from start to finish you can find the other 4 parts of the article by searching at BitTech.net for Orac³. Part 5 in the link is really more of an overview and not so much detail but parts 1 - 4 are detailed enough that if you were so inclined you could recreate this mod for yourself!

Yeah, that was pretty neat when he did that. I remember waiting a couple months for him to do an update... but by the time it was up I had lost interest. I didn't really like his yellow-green color scheme he had.

Certainly a ton of work with excellent and memorable results though 🙂

Looks terrible. I don't know what the big deal is with rice these days, but I don't see how anyone can take someone seriously who actively seeks to make their PC look like a Tonka Toy.

Get a quality case with a nice professional look (CoolerMaster, Lian-Li, Antec, etc.) and be happy. Being tacky, flashy, and tasteless does not impress.

I really do not like that case.. I think it's totally ugly.

The Watercooled ATC-210 (IIRC) in the case pics thread was 100 times better looking..

Well I personally have to admire the time and effort the guy had to put into building that box.

I think it is absolutely awesome...The attention to detail is just amazing...Cannot even imagine how many hours it took.

I'll agree to that, not to mention the planning and talent it takes to pull something like that off. But what a complete waste of..... well everything. That has to be the tackiest mod I have ever seen, it is just a complete jumbled mess. I couldn't imagine spending all that time and money on a project that looks like a cybergenetic nightmare.

You're right about the jumbled mess look. If he wants to change out his ram be probably has to take the day off 😉

I bet 99% of you guys wouldn't have the talnet to do one of those massive project... I would like to see any of you try.. taste is in the eye of the beholder... anyways I think his project looks awesome to me atleast anyways.

I think it's "awesome", I just think it's ugly.
you can have some extremely nice work done and still look good.
IMO it just looks bad... but yeah, I am sure it was hard to do.. oh well. 😛
I like the look of my case a lot (both inside and out) just as much as a lot of the sweet rigs out there.

I agree. I mean, I respect the guy has mod talent, but why put in all the effort if it's going to look that bad?

Well, first thing I thought when I saw it was "whoa." No other emotions. I looked through the pages of work he had put into it and, although I think the case looks nice (very non-computer looking 😛) he put way too much time into it, and it looks like it's not gonna receive any updates for a long time.

Are you jealous? Is that it? That build is simply art at it's finest. The workmanship is astounding (not a single scratch on the bolts, etc..) Not everyone has the expertise or patience to put a box like this together at this level, and I'm sure you couldn't come close in creativity. Guys like you need a safe little place with your CoolerMaster, Lian-Li, Antec, etc. (spelled b-o-r-i-n-g). You can be a part of the masses or rise well above it like this builder did.....

Guys like me spend 60 hours a week at a job supporting a familiy and do not have the time to devote to MODS. I pay someone else to do it to my LIAN LI or other boring case.

Lighten up there bubba. Nobody critcized the talent and workmanship that went into that case. Quite the contrary, most of us praised that aspect. But I have to say it looks bad, and is completely impractical. Not to mention the expense, that thing must have cost a fortune. Call it art if you want to, but we'll call it a monument to excess, and a clusterfvck.

I think this case is just awesome. First thing that came to my mind when I saw it was that it looks like Borg cube from star trek or some piece of art from H.R. Giger. Simply the coolest case I have ever seen...

Come dudes, seriously, you're missing the point. To each their own. I think that that build is exceptional. It's not about "you'll be much better off if you get yourself a Coolermaster, balh, blah. etc.." It's a guy showing his work, his hobby, that's all. Alot of work went into it and then some morons come in and thrash it...I just don't get it. I own a cheap a$$ case and I'm not interested in building something like that, however, I still think it's an excellent build...

this mod looks ridiculous, is obviously trying to hard to be noticed, and must be compensating for something. No, I don't try to garner attention with some wackjob PC case because there's nothing I need to prove to you - it's not worth my time. I look at a PC like this: If I set it up in my office at work, would my co-workers laugh me out of the building?

If the answer is yes, that means the clients would be GUARANTEED to do so, and the case is obviously lacking.

There's a difference between doing custom work on a case, and doing elegant, tasteful custom work on a case. This is why the paint jobs from Falcon, VooDoo, et al are so high quality - people appreciate professionalism in design.

So anyway, if you want to build a case that looks like the bastard child of a neon sign and a robotic spider, be my guest, but don't expect me to think it has any more merit than abstract art: little to none.

EDIT: God, I could even understand ugly if it were practical, but it can't even claim that. This mod is weird for the sake of being weird, which I've never been able to see a point to.

Hey azzwipe, I'm not missing any point. To each their own, I agree.... I gave props to the dudes ability, then gave MY OPINION on why I don't like the case. Does that make me a moron? You obviously don't respect anyones opinion that differs from you own, and maybe you should practice what you preach. Everybody that posted in this thread gave their opinion, nobody "trashed" the guy, and you come in here and throw insults around in both of your posts. So if your going to give your opinion, fine. But don't insult others over theirs.
