Opty Stuck. :( About to smash my statue..

Prime stable, 8 hours, SmallFFT test.
2520, 1.4v

Now, assuming how awesome that is, I should be able to get at LEAST 2.6, right? (Better than a 4800+, but I'm a greedy SOB and want an FX-60 >_>)

Anything near 2.6 or higher, Core0 dies on prime, REGARDLESS of the voltage.

So.

Any suggestions on what I can do?
Really bugging me here o_o

Edit: HAHA.
Upped it to 2547. (4HTT difference)
And guess what..
It failed. :brokenheart: (Within ~2 minutes. Core 0).

What cooling / Temps?
Well, maybe there are chips not doing much more than they were desiged for (1800MHz)...but 700MHz overclock @ 1.4V can still be called a non-dud 😉

Sheesh... you're pissed because you can't over clock a chip to insane speeds that the manufacturer has not validated for that particular chip. Overclocking is a YMMV deal.

Yours is slightly better than mine. I can't hit 2.5ghz even at 1.5V.

Core 0 on mine is weak. It fails P95 within a few seconds at 2.5ghz, while core #1 can pass at that speed with no problems.

As others have said, overclocking is YMMV, nothing is guaranteed.

Yes, I know any and all overclocks are free speed--but I'm entitled to feel however I want 😛

Anyway.

@ DocTemps are low; 27C idle, high 30s load (My room actually heats up if I keep my door closed... so the ambient is probably ~23 when idle, ~30something when loaded. Not kidding.) Have to verify for exact numbers.
Have a fan over the PWMICs, chipset is fine. (Basically, below 50 for everything)
Running water through the CPU.

@TG
Running 3-4-4-8 (2GB of memory)

@Vegitto
I'll look into that, though I've switched around quite a bit.

@SunnyD
Never said I was pissed at it for not overclocking higher--just kind've weirded out by the fact that it can prime @ 2.52 with 1.4v; but it hits a brick wall any higher.
Call it... a question of science 😛

what motherboard?

what LDT are you using?

are you sure your temps are right? those seeem REALLY low unless you got some cool ambient.

i find that opterons are VERY temp sensitive.

for example, my 148 can possibly do 3.1 ghz but seems to error out in prime once temps hit 52-53C's. If I could figure out a way to get it even 2 or 3 degrees cooler, I think I might have a chance at 3.1.

so watch your temps carefully.

DFI Ultra-D Mobo, and the temps are correct.

High 20s idle (29C), up to 32C, depending on my room temperatures. Running a custom water setup.

Loads (after 2 hours of priming) to 38C after ~2 hours of priming. (Flits between 37 and 38)

PWM ICs max out at 46Cs. Chipset at 42Cs.

CPU is @ 1.425 volts when these were taken, LDT is @ 1 step above stock, as is the NB. (1.4 and 1.6, respectively, if my memory is correct.)

Let me get a thermometer to measure room temp.
Ambient room temp is around ~23Cs, (72F) right now.

Also, I've bounced my dividers around from 9:10 to 5:6 to 1:2 to everything in between.
No luck.

I wonder if it has to d owith 2 x 1gb of ram..I find my 0546 xpmw..hits a wall at 2700....

seems alot of people with 2 x 512 do much better

or am I just wrong???

 too much to ask from 2gb😉

Pardon my annoyance, but you have gained a freaking 700 MHz!

Your CPU is faster than a 4800+.

OCing is not guaranteed, ever. However, i can't see how you can complain about getting an Opteron 180+ for the price of a 165.

FFS, be happy, & rejoice...

Ran 2x512MB TCCD sticks as well. (EL Plat. Rev 2's.)

LDT Multiplier is @ 3.

Also, N7, I'm not 'ungrateful'. If this is where I max out at, so be it.

I was just really hoping someone would magically appear with information that would let me hit 2.8Ghz and actually take advantage of my water system.

Yeah, i get where you're coming from.

I've never gotten those "lucky" OC monsters.

My Venice 3200+ could only do 2.6 GHz SP2004/P95 stable, & my X2 3800+ only does 2.4 GHz SP2004/P95 stable, so believe me, you're doin' better than i do 😛

You know, I bet no one really ever gets monster overclockers. They've just got wishful thinking and delude themselves into photoshopping in a massive score just to get online applause and make themselves feel good. Then again, it could be just me.

I triple-dog-dare-you to post that at XS in their 'Xtreme Overclocking' forum.

disagree..i bought an opty 144 after hearing the craze and it runs @ 2700 mhz @ 1.45v

But honestly, I've seen quite a few suspicious screenshots. Playing with so many Opterons and stability testing, I also learned there are little tricks here and there to make a somewhat "likely" looking screenshots. That's why I always save a full Desktop screenshots with Prime95 windows as tall as possible as well as other real-time system monitoring tools.

From my minimal experience with Opterons it seems voltage and temps are different with these than other AMD chips.

My 148 runs prime stable at 2.65 at 1.375 volts. Temps are 28 idle. 35 running prime. It fails prime at 2.75 at 1.55 volts running a divider on my ram eventhough temps do not go over 45. This on an asus a8n sli deluxe. 2 x 512 corsair 3200 tccd stuff.
