Im looking to trade my opty 165 for a fx-55, however i cannot find any reviews comparing the two chips.

Soo...

Which is a better cpu performance wise?

I have my opty running 2.5ghz.

Thanks!

The FX 55 is a .13 micron chip versus your .09 micron opty 165. The FX is 100Mhz faster than what you are running your chip at.

The FX55 runs quite hot and has poor headroom as it is the fastest .13micron K8 chip released.

Bottom line is that you would get 4% more single core speed and an unlocked multiplier that won't do you much good for the cost of an entire second core. Not a good deal.

I second that, don't bother. For 100mhz increase you are gonna lose alot of multitasking ability. If u had that opty at stock then I would think bout it for 1 min more, but the answer remains the same!

Keep your opty 165 and try to get a little more out of it.

The dual core WELL outwheighs the 100mhz of the FX-55.

There is also a E4 Revision of the FX55 that is .90 nm with SOI. the older 130nm FX55's are alot harder to find these days.

Get Opty, it is dual core. Dual core vs single core is hardly a comparison anymore.

check tomshardware cpu charts.

the opty for sure.... even the old 820 pd could beat the fx 55 at multitasking easily.

And at 2.5ghz u wont notice a single diff between the opty and fx55 in single task performance.
