Just wondering if these temps seem out of the ordinary?

Uhm, confession: I didn't take the original thermal paste off the stock hsf after I bought it. And, on top of that, I added a dab of AS to the cpu. Would this qualify as "too much thermal paste", and might it be responsible for the high temps? (if they are high)

Thanks.

I don't know about Opterons, but my Sempron idles at around 38 and hits 47 under a load, and everything seems fine with it.

To start off I have a Opty 144 @ 2.8GHz with 1.49V being cooled by a Zalman CNPS9500.

Your idle temp seems just fine (lower than mine actually), but your load temp is just a bit on the high side. I think you're pretty safe if you stay under 60C, but I don't like to let mine go above 50C. You have a dual core however, so those temps should be fine.

Your temps are fine. I used to have Athlons Xp's/Thunderbird that used to reach 65 back in the day. The compound alone on the HS was fine, but by applying two types of thermal compound(back with the XP's that was a no-no) you possibly reduced heat transfer. If I were you I'd clean of the stock compound and reseat it with AS only.

Doesn't seem out of line. I have a 130mm Athlon64@2.5 and 1.55v and it gets to 54 full load with the gpu also under load. It is cooled by an XP90. Yours is 90nm and you are using .1v less voltage but with stock cooling, so 4C less sounds just about right to me. If you want to lower it, there are plenty of aftermarket coolers that will do a better job than the stock cooler.

Your temp's are fine, i'm more curious as to why u need 1.45v just to get 2.5ghz

I have my 146 opteron at 2.8 at the same voltage.

Take off the HS/fan, clean it, and remount w/just as5 spread in a paper-thin sheet over the chip.

I guarantee you'll see at least a 5 degree drop in temps, if not 10 degrees.

My 146 has a cheapo thermaltake w/as5. At 1.45v it will idle in the upper 20s.

Right now I'm at 1.55v @ 2.8 and it rarely hits 50, usually load temping in the mid-40s if my room is reasonably cool.
