Optorite DD201 DVD burner troubles

I have tried 3 Optorite model DD201 DVD burners in my system and none of them burn a readable DVD. I have tried the following: 3 different DVD drives, Nero ver5 and Nero ver6 (the drive came with Nero ver5), in WindowsME, in a new WindowsXP install, and with 2 different brands of DVD disks (both are recommended by the drive manufacture for the DD201). One brand of disk just locks up Windows when trying to burn and the other brand of disk burns but then the disk is unreadable. I have ver 4.60 ASPI installed in both Windows system. The disks are DVD-R disks, which this burner supports. I have the newest firmware (2.60) installed in the drive.

The question is; does anyone else have trouble getting an Nvidia chipset motherboard working with an Optorite DVD burner? What brand of DVD burner do work with this motherboard? It is hard for me to believe that I received 3 bad burners so now I am thinking there might be a compatibility problem with the Optorite DD201 and the Shuttle AN-35 motherboard. I don?t know what else to try.

I have the same burner, same firmware, Abit nf7s. I haven't had any trouble with it, except mistakes I have made. Never tried dvd-r, only dvd+r\rw, Ricoh and cmc mag from memorex. Seems like I did have problems with Nero 6 ultra, disc I burned with it froze me up for a bit and wouldn't play, course it could have been the disc. Everything else I copied with dvd decrypter and dvd shrink and they worked perfectly in four different players. Maybe Nero has a patch, I haven't looked, since free is better.

Waitman, thanks for the reply. I did find out that this burner can read and write DVD+R disks fine. It can write to some DVD-R disks but can not read DVD-R disks. That is what is causing me trouble with this drive. I can burn DVD-R (Ritek G04) disks but the drive would fail when trying to verify the burned data. That is why I thought the drives were defective; the first drive was defective, it could not even read a regular CD. Anyways, I was reading about some other DVD drives and read that some drives can write but can not read some types of disks. I took out the Optorite and put back in my Lite-On DVD player. I put the unreadable burned DVD into the Lite-On drive and could read the files fine, no problem. Switching the drives back to the Optorite and it could not read the -R disk that it just burned.

If you want to know what DVD disks are recommended for the DD0201 with 2.60 firmware go to:
Recommended Dics List

I tried two different disk brands of -R disks in this drive. Both are on this list but only the Ritek G04 would burn. The other were Longten001 and would not work with this drive. It would lockup the system. So take this recommended list lightly.

you have 3 dd201 burner?! oh man and it doesn't cost less then dd405 that can burn both -r +r at 8x
The thing with dvd burner, they just dont come down in prices enough to justify getting 4x over 8x or dual media.
