Hey guys,

So here is the issue, and this has been happening for a while. When the eject button is pressed on the front of the drive, it acts as if it is trying to eject, but it does not push the tray out. I can use the paperclip method just fine, but it would be nice if it actually ejected correctly. Once in a blue moon, it will actually eject and retract just fine, but then the following time it will do the same hang up thing.

Is a belt off a track or something? Is this a common thing that can happen and maybe easily fixed? Don't get me wrong, I know DVD/CD drives and burners are dirt cheap these days, but that is besides the point. I don't want to have to throw this out if it is something that can simply be fixed, as it reads CDs and DVDs just fine, and burns them fine also.

Thanks for any help!

Just take it back and get another one. There is some sort of mechanical problem with the drive. The motor that drives the tray may be a bad motor.

This drive is not new, so taking it back or returning it is not an option. I want to hear solutions to the tray problem if there are any, not replacement suggestions. I stated that previously.

Burners are cheap now days. $40 and you'll have a new drive.

Its an older drive so its just time to replace it.

It might be the eject button itself. Right-click the drive in Windows Explorer and select Eject a few times...if it always succeeds, there ya go.

Tray mechanism could be dirty. When the tray is stopped in movement, it will automatically retract, so that's what could be keeping the tray closed. Compressed air might do the trick, or you might need some alcohol and a lint-free swab.

If the eject button is the issue, or the cleaning doesn't work, the current BOTB is the S223Q...I've had one for about six months, an excellent drive for $25 shipped...
