Hello,

My dad just bought 6 achers of land in zephyrhills florida. He is planning on giving me one achor of land to build my own house and he will be on the other 5 achers. Problem is, he says zephyrhills is mostly undeveloped and will not have DSL or Cable where the land is located for some time. So the only option he says is DirectTV and get satalite internet. Only problem w/ satalite internet is it costs $600 up front and $89 per month. So he wants to see if there is a way for us to share the internet between both houses so we don't have to pay $1200 up front and then paying almost $200 each month. Can someone tell me any recommendations on how we could share the internet between two houses? I think only 1 acher of land will seperate our houses.

thanks!

If you use satellite I believe that you need a phone line for upload to the satellite company and then you get high speed download from the satellite itself!! massive latencies are common for satellite too...

1acre is also quite a long way for wireless networking to travel.....not sure how far that is in metres...the wireless I have been looking at can go about 300ft (around <100metres) I know some can go further but don't know how far...you could always just use cable but most Cat5 will only go about 100metres before losing signal but if you use repeaters or even switches or routers then you may be able to stretch it.....There have got to be easier ways but I have never worked on anything like that before so maybe someone will have a better idea...

with decent gear and line of sight (meaning no trees/obstructions) wireless can go for miles.

Certainly beats the upfront cost of your satellite - just make sure the antennas can "see" each other.
