Optional laptop LAN port

I recently ordered the KDS 6480iPTD-01 laptop. I noticed that the integrated 56K modem is included, but that the Lan port is listed as "optional". How would I be able to activate the Lan port? I know I could always buy a pcmcia network card, but if I could somehow activate the already included port that would preferrable. Thanks for any help.

hm.. i could be wrong, but to me that sounds like, there are 2 different versions of that model, and you would have to specify to the deal that you want to one with the rj45 port..

If the external Ethernet port is wired you may be able to swap the modem with a modem/NIC combo

(this assumes its a mini PCI modem board)

There is a version with the RJ-45 enabled, but it isn't availabe anywhere. Also, I found a really good deal on the model w/o the RJ-45. It wasn't worth it to pay like $200 more just for a network connection when I can get a pcmcia card for under $40. Is there anything I can add/change to the mini-pci card controlling the modem and lan ports?

Gunbuster, you posted just before I could. Where can I get a combo 56K/Lan mini-pci card? The KDS website doesn't say anything about it.

Firesale.com has one if you search minipci

ohh my bad, thats just a modem 🙁

Be warned MiniPCI has at least 2 connector types (for the NIC wires) so it may not even fit

I already opened the miniPCI access panel. There's one cable already connected that I assume is the modem cable, and there's one thicker cable that's not connected to anything. I assume it's the ethernet wire. So if I could get a compatible miniPCI combo card both ports should work right? Of course that's assuming I can get one for around $50. If it costs more than that I'll just waste a pcmcia port.
