Optional features on current car becomes must haves for next car

cruise control is a must for me. it keeps me from getting tickets. 😛

unfortunately, my 2005 mazda didnt have an option for just cruise control. i had to buy a package. 😡

i opted for sound and wheels package. stereo control on steering wheel and bigger tires w/alloy rims.

for the alloy rims, i figured i dont have to replace hub caps whenever i hit a deep pot hole.
it also looks better, but still debatable whether it was worth the cost.

but for the stereo controls on steering wheel, it was definitely worth it. i never knew the convience of it.

now my next car must have stereo control on steering wheel in addition to cruise control.
( and maybe alloy rims.)

optional now become needs? 🙁

In yearlongsummerFlorida gets A/C standard...yes, some cars STILL have A/C as an option...that and power windows...and tint...

On the other hand...FOR ME a manual tranny is NOT an option...it's a must...and no longer available in a LOT of cars...I will baby my current MT for as long as this Camry will take me...

A/C and power steering are my only real needs in a car. I bought an old miata and I realized, everything else is really optional. Don't need a radio, don't need power windows or power locks, but take away my A/C or my power steering and I will be very, very unhappy.

6 miles of LED strips seem to be the most desirable must have to be the new cool kid on the block fad lately. Thanks for that Audi...

Cruise & Bluetooth.

And backup cam, but not so much a must-have as much as a really-nice-to-have.

Ehhh ...
My previous car 1999 Chrysler 300M had electronic seats, heated seats, V6, leather, and was generally faster and more comfortable.

My current car 2008 Subaru Forester has regular seats, 4 cyl nonturbo, and is essentially "stripped down" trim. It does have more cigarette lighter/power ports. It also gets like 7-10mpg better. It can hold more crap too.

That said, I've always considered cruise and AC "must haves." Power locks are nice, but my 1st car was manual buttons on each door only. I could live without them if I had to, though consider it mandatory unless I have some type of financial collapse.

I tried cruise control one and it bugged the hell out of to let go of the gas and keep moving lol.

I agree steering wheel controls are must haves but they seem to be stock on most cars now. Wish MT was too but not at this rate.

Bluetooth/usb/ phone integration is also becoming fairly standard.

Ever since I got my car and synced my phone up to it, I've been loving the ability to answer/make calls all hands free.

The weird thing is that I still see tons of people driving around here in new cars (mostly luxury brands lexus/merc/bmw) that I'm 99% sure has the same features but they're all hold their god damn phones to their face and talking. It's pretty damn obvious and every person on the road I see is doing it.

I don't understand why they would rather hold it than use the car's built in mic and speaker system... but driving MT also makes it rather difficult to juggle a phone so I may be appreciating it more.

Backup camera and parking sensors. Heated steering wheel, heated and air conditioned seats. Rear and side view mirrors that auto tint at night (prevents headaches from overly bright headlights). Good iPod integration.

You just need the new one - "Adaptive" Cruise Control. Auto-adjusts to the person in front of you so you don't have to 😛

Two cars back I had a heated steering wheel. I really miss that in the winter. 🙁

I have heated seats in my current car. Can't see ever not having them in a car with leather. Wish they were cooled though.

I also can't ever see not having a car with built in NAV and bluetooth. I love the backup camera too.

I've noticed that too. I setup my phone to pair automatically everytime I get in my car and it actually works pretty well (it takes about a minute or so for it to pair up so I just wait until I've driven about a mile before trying to use it). Really a nice feature to be able to just press a button on the steering wheel then say, "Call home" and have it do it without me ever having to look away from the road or take my hands off the wheel.

My car was offered very few options, but I would love to have something like the Recaro seats in my next vehicle.

Can't live without automatic climate control ever again. Set it and forget it, no blowing in my face or on my feet when it's the right temperature. Love how it just quiets down when it's up to temp.

i went backwards.

2010 hyundai genesis coupe 2.0T R-Spec to a 1996 mazda miata with no AC, power nothing, and no ABS
I've gone backwards in my life a few times. Went from a two year old (bought used) Cadillac to a ten year old rusty Chevrolet once. That one took some getting used to. 😵

Adaptive cruise would be nice...if people knew how to maintain speed. And didn't brake on the highway.

I thought adaptive cruise was nice especially for those reasons.... so you can fall asleep and the car wouldn't crash into the car in front of you. (though, I guess you can still veer into another lane while asleep)

Xenon headlights- OMG the difference is huge.
Autoclimate- common now, but so much better than a knob.
Bluetooth- yah. no more rinky dink speaker setups anymore

Stuff I really want
-Cooled seats
-Adaptive cruise
-Backup cam
