I figure you guys have been in communication with the FT developers and can forward this on if you think it's worthwhile. It would be really nice to have the option (probably as a check box below the Subscribe to this thread box) to disable converting text to smilies, mostly for when people post snippets of shell code or source code.

It's an option in FuseTalk 4 which the forums are supposed to upgraded to when it's completed.

Sweet! I can disable sigs and not have my smilies change into the little picture smilies in the next version :D

Nice.

What about white space preservation? That's also a killer for posting source code, it should be limited to like 50 consecutive spaces to avoid abuse?

Isn't the disabling smiley feature already built in? There's an option in the 'customize' menu to use "standard" graphics so the emoticon tags don't produce an emoticon image. But it also removes the avatar images and a lot of the eye candy so there's your tradeoff.

I'd also like to see some kind of spacing preservation. :)

That's on a per user basis. The feature in FT4 will make it so that they don't get converted to images for anyone viewing that post.

Ah, I see what you mean. Well I guess the standard graphics option should work as a temporary workaround until the new fusetalk comes around.

That's one thing I would really like to see, a
Code:
tag, that disabled smilies inside of itself, would rid the need of a checkbox for it, and would be very handy :)

Apparently there is some feature for attaching code to messages, but it is not enabled here. I want to see a fixed-width formatting option, as in a [code] tag that functions like the [[b][/b]q] tag which is used for quoting. Apparently Zuni doesn't see the need for this, however.
