Long story short - I saw an add for an Optimus G - Brand New Sealed - on local add's for $300.00. I offered him $250 and he said yes - Surprised me. Went to his place and it was brand new.

Paid $3 on ebay for an unlock code which worked fine.

Sold the Xperia ZL for $50 more than I bought it for - $565.00

For all I use it for - Web Browsing, MP3's, Email and Social Media - The Optimus G is more than enough.

Anyways, I've been VERY IMPRESSED with the Optimus G. I turned it on and an update to 4.1.2 was available. So I upgraded right away.

I thought the Xperia ZL was fast stock - but the Optimus G is faster.

Loving the UI and the Screen so far. It's also noticably lighter than the ZL while still having a premium glass look. It's better looking than its Nexus 4 cousin for sure.

So far very impressed - and glad I did the swap - As all rumors indicate LG will update this phone to 5.0 and it's running the same CPU/GPU as the ZL, and I got it for 1/2 the price.

A lot of people say 1080p on a smartphone vs 720p won't make much difference.

One thing I will say - Text on the Xperia ZL was much sharper and easier on the eyes than the Optimus G... but the Optimus G colors are more natural and the viewing angles are solid for those that care.

Got it on Kijiji - Its like Craigs List in Canada but more popular.

To be honest - There were 2 Optimus G's in the phone section for sale both around the $300 mark. I went with this one as it was brand new

I literally still have the plastic on the back and sides right now. $250 is sweet deal for this phone... and $3 to unlock it within 2 hours was great.

The One Negative - Which I'm totally fine with - This is the E971 Rogers version of the Optimus G - meaning its LTE bands are 700/2600. I am on Virgin Mobile (same towers as Bell/Telus) and there LTE is 700/2100... So I only have HSPA+ for Data - but I can live with it for this price since I'm on Wifi at home, my friends, and my work all day.

The Optimus G is a nice phone & even if LG doesn't upgrade it to key lime pie you can always root the device & upgrade it manually via a custom ROM besides it should be able to handle this next major version of Android even with last year's top of the line S4 pro !

Dang, $250CND for a new one? That's ridiculous!
There's a few new ones in my area, but they're all asking $500. I'm tempted to offer $300, but they'd probably be insulted.

There a few reasons

1) LG Phone feels like a premium device. Its a better looking phone. It feels more solid in hand yet is noticeably lighter. Love the glass back. Its a better looking Nexus 4

2) The Optimus G is fast. The UI flies. Its the fastest stock rom I've ever used. Its the same chipset as the ZL but it has 0 lag whereas the ZL launcher and menus hiccup/lags

3) I prefer the Optimus G screen even though its 720p vs the ZL's 1080p screen. I like the colors better, and outside its leagues above the ZL. The sensitivity is better on the Optimus G. 1080p is more of a novelty for the majority of things.

Both have 4.1.2 and both have some cool unique features. Surprisingly the ZL camera was disappointing in most auto modes. Manual settings can get some nice pics.

For the price I paid for both, it was a no brainer for me.

The Optimus G will most likely get KLP too so I'm happy.

Yep! I opened everything myself for first time. It was literally brand new. Unlocked it for $3 online too.

They seem to go for $325-350 on ebay so prices are falling on them

It was just a personal sale - He did have a brand new Lumia 920 also for sale (Black) for $280.00

Approx. price I've seen them going on ebay - this one ends in 25 mins for example and is at $320 and is new(ish) and unlocked. I've seen them go auction for $325 ish lately but I tend to look for ones with Odd ending times.

2 Weeks ago I bought my father a HTC One S off ebay for $145 + $20 shipping - It was literally like new. You can still find some decent deals once in a while on ebay if you look daily. This was a "Buy It Now" price so I just got lucky when I looked, it wasn't up long. My father loves the phone so far, its his first Android.

I agree with this, the black Optimus G really looks good and is basically the iPhone face modernized with a big screen and nice and small bezels. About the only thing I would have changed is a different color for the logo.

The glass feels great but I did find it extremely slippery, the HTC One is easier to hold for long periods of time.

And swiping through the home screens and app drawer is ridiculously fast, faster than any device I've used, including the HTC One.

The only real negatives I had were that it throttled pretty easily, and cracking the screen would also screw up the touchscreen.

Thanks for the details. Since I am one of the sheep consuming subsidy phones it is nice living vicariously through you.

And the wife inherited the Optimus G - back to the Note 2 - she was big time overdue for an upgrade.
