Optimum settings???

I'm getting some glitches in video performance, so it occured to me that I've never really tried to get my pc set to it's optimum level. I would like some input into what I should set things at for the best performance. After some research, I bought this equipment with the hopes that I would get some pretty killer performance, but I must not be doing things correctly. I've never been into overclocking, but I'd be willing to do some safe tweaks to get some performance boosts. Any input is very much appreciated!!!


My Specs:

Asus A8V Deluxe
AMD Athlon64 3200+
1GB Corsair XMS
200GB WD SATA HD
(160GB Maxtor ATA)
Windows XP Pro
