So I'm going to pick at the power consumption of my notebook to optimize battery life. I can adjsut all the control panel settings to turn down the monster processor I don't need, turn down the video card, dim the monitor...I am trying to get a feel for how much power the Hard drive truly uses in my typical day to day use to see if it's worth upgrading to an SSD and trading space for some speed and battery life.
Microsoft labs came up with some software called Joulemeter that claims to monitor the energy utilization of all PC components. This would seem to give me a sense of how much I have to optimize.
Has anyone used this softweare or software like it? I know that understanding consumption has helped me maximize my phone's battery life pretty well.
Has anyone tinkered enough with battery including swapping Hard drives to SSSDs to know if there's even a chance of getting significant life out of a battery?
I have an Asus N56 NZ notebook
i7 3610 (I think) CPU
NVidia 650M Video card
7200 rpm 750G HD
8 G of RAM
I figure it will eat power when I'm doing significant "work" video encoding ,etc" I'm trying to optimize the basic surfing time, which is typically limited to about 3 3/4-4 hrs. If I could get another 15-20% out of that another half hour to 45 mins), it'd be great.
Thanks
