my 486 is at 600nm so obviously it's hotter than my Sandy

the card is also running at half the speed and has fewer transistors

a quick comparison of the heatsinks says the overall thermal output is significantly less

Ugg???

However you make it, it has to do the same work to produce the same product on the screen. The less efficient PS1.4, is a far cry from VLIW5 of the 5450.

The 5450 has a much better power management and can also offload a ton more processing than the 9250. I.e. x264 video!!!! The only thing that 9250 is going to do is make the videos run on the processor which will kill any saving what so evar.

BTW the 9250 can't even run windows media center dude!!!

By your logic the best way to save power is to go back to windows XP because it does less.

Seriously stop diggin your hole.

maybe sandwich the radiator with two fans (one on each side), doing the pull/push airflow could help. Also, is the system sitting clear from furniture, walls, etc? Make sure there is enough room around it to allow as much air as possible to circulate in and out and around the rig

There is no problem with the system or components running too hot or overheating with maybe the exception of the crazy hot memory heat spreaders, I want to reduce overall heat produced by the system so the room stays cooler. Adding more fans doesn't reduce the amount of heat the system generates, it just dissipates it into the air more quickly.

I dont know what your performance needs are, but you could also migrate to FM2 + A10-6700 and save a tone of power both in Idle and full load.
A10-6700K APU alone almost have half the idle power of 1100T and using the iGPU will save you another 20-30W more from the dGPU.

But even if you just get the FX6300 + low end 28nm GPU you will also save a substantial power on Idle from your Phenom 1075t + HD6850.

I think I would go with a FX4300 if I stay with this MB. I'm also thinking of perhaps moving to an i5 processor. Which i5 would give me roughly the same performance as I have now- which is more than enough for what I do?
