optical out to minidisc

I have a sharp md-ms722 minidisc player and a hercules game theater xp with optical out, I have the cable hooked up to both the game theater and the minidisc, but I can't get it to record the sound that is coming out! I don't really have any idea on how to record from the optical out, does anyone here know how?

I'm doing it on my Santa Cruz sound card, and it works fine. I only have a 2 speaker setup, but I had to put the sound card to a 4 speaker setup to get the sound. Try doing that on your sound card. Hope this helps.

Also, make sure that the volume on both your minidisc player and your computer is at the highest.

Can you actually hear anything at all from the minidisc when you have it connected? I ask this because the output might be a custom optical out and you may need a special lead from Hercules. The Creative optical out on the back of the Live! soundcard is non-standard and requires a special lead fom them - you may have a similar problem if you aren't getting any output at all.

I also have a Sharp 722 MD recorder/player and use it all the time to record MP3s from my puter. I believe I use an Aureal Storm Platinum audio sound card with optical out. If I remember correctly, I had to turn on a 'digital' out setting on the sound cards software in order for it to output to the optical/digital out.
Make sure that you see the light coming through the optical cable. I would double check the driver settings/software. Feel free to IM me if you still can't get it to work, I've been using the 722 for years now.
