Is there a sound card that has optical or coax output for my receiver. The receiver already has Dolby Digital and DTS decoding built in, I don't need the sound card to do that, I just want the digital signal output. I will be using an ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon for my TV out. I want to be able to use my PC as a Home entertainment system to watch DVDs and VCDs on my Sony Trinitron 36" TV and Kenwood Receiver.

Digital Signal output? Most of the SB Live today have digital output with them. If you want both Optical and Coaxial output, perhaps you can try investing in a Platinum 5.1? Remember that you can only use optical output only if your amp supports it.

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz can prolly do it as well. Heck, even Vortex2 cards have digital out (add-on or onboard).

Does the SB Live Platinum 5.1 actually have a coax or optical output or is it just 1/8" line out plugs?

The Sb Live Platinum has optical, coax, and line out jacks (minus the optical if you buy the American version), and the 5.1 has all three as well.

The SBLive! X-Gamer and MP3+ (both 5.1 and non-5.1) and the 2nd revision value all have the 1/8" minijack digital, you can get a converter to make that RCA/COAX, and it carries an AC-3/DTS stream.

The SBLive! Platinum (5.1 and non) have standard RCA/COAX and TOSLINK/OPTICAL SPDIF connectors, both of which carry an AC-3/DTS stream.

I don't think there is any particular advantage to one over the other...just find out which your amp supports and get that one.

Just make sure you don't use Win2000 as SPDIF passthrough doesn't work, so you'd need a hollywood+ to get SPDIF output for win2000.

So are you saying that if I use Windows 2000 that I won't be able to get digital output? If so which OS should I use? Win 98/me?
