Optical Mouse won't work in USB

I have a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical that I have been using for the past 8 months with no problem till tonight. I swapped video cards, and I guess I accidentally plugged my keyboard into my mouse ps2 port. Well, of course when I booted up my keyboard wouldn't work, but my mouse (connected to the USB port) didn't work either. Windows also asked me to install the ipfilter.inf file. I plugged my keyboard into the correct plug and rebooted, and now my mouse still doesn't work in the USB port. It turns on when my computer POSTs, then again as windows finishes booting just like it used to. Then it turns off again just before the boot screen disappears and stays off. I tried re-installing my USB drivers, and plugging the mouse into the other port, neither works. The only way I can get it to work now is with the PS2 adaptor, at least I have that, but I want to go back to USB. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Try deleting the PS/2 mouse in your Device Manager and then rebooting with the mouse plugged in to the USB port.

I had a similar problem to yours recently. At first it wouldn't work in USB mode, but still in PS/2. Eventually PS/2 mode failed too. Once that happens, just RMA the part to MS. I just got a new one about two weeks ago. It's one of the newer ones that doesn't have problems when you move it really really fast too.

I have tried uninstalling the PS/2 and rebooting with it in USB twice. I have tried it with my roommate's Logitech optical mouse too, and still have the same problem, so I don't think it's the mouse. Thanks for the suggestions, any others??

How about removing the USB devices and restarting? Sounds like there may be a problem with them unless you have other USB devices that are working.
