Optical Mouse problem

Hi,
Recently bought a MIcrosoft Optical Wheel mouse hoping to get better results in FPS games. So far, I find this mouse inferior to its predecessor, a regular MS wheel mouse. Sometimes get jerky movement. Sometimes have to lift the mouse, reposition and repeat the motion because it failed to process it the first time. In playing some FPS games, the mouse cursor(or crosshair) will sometimes go into a frenzy and start spinning on its axis, until I interupt it.

Any suggestions on improving movement and overall responsiveness?

Use the latest MS Drivers (version 4 if I'm not mistaken) and try both ports (PS/2 - USB) out.
