Optical mouse not responding at times

Im using a Microsoft Intellimouse optical and its been fine until recently. I am having problems with my mobo northbridge chip because my fan quit on me and it was giving me strange post info....I doubt this has anything to do with it, but now my mouse will stall while I move it and then will move again and then stall while im using it, having the pointer just hang there until it unfreezes a second or two later.

Im sure im using the latest drivers, what could be causing it?

Have you tried another mouse?

If the mouse isn't working, send it back to Microsoft and let them send you another one. If it's something with the mobo, then fix it.
