Optical Mouse - Mouse Pad Help

For an Optical Mouse, what mouse pads would you reccomend? I've heard the Ratpadz are pretty good so far. Any others you'd like to mention before I make my final choice about which one I'm going to get?
 
Trial and error......every computer parts store out there will make it there pleasure to give you (free) mouse pads with their logo on them....you will finally hit one that works well for you and your moudse. I have never paid for a mouse pad and never will.

I have found that most optical mice work better without a pad....odd colours on the pad make the cursor jump all over the place...if you do use a pad then the plainer the better.

Anyone have experience with the func and the Ratpadz? I just want the best one out there since I don't plan on purchasing a mouse pad very often

I'm debating if I wanna try the Ratpad or the func. I think I'd like the func's surface better, as a mouse on plastic anything just seems odd to me. func's surface seems more textured/rubbery, which sounds more appealing to me. Neither provides for a gel wrist wrest though!!! W/out a wrist pad, carpal tunnel syndrome would become a reality. The Everglide Giganta has a wrist pad, but it seems like it would be even weirder than the Ratpad (seems like a glossy plastic finish). So.....func or Ratpad? Anyone used em both? I'm using a Waverest; its decent but I need more real estate.

I'm deciding between the Ratpadz and the func as well, but I think the Ratpadz got me, hehe. I think the plastic may reflect the laser from the mouse better on it than on a cloth type surface.

Reflection is actually bad on optical mice, but I don't think that should be a problem with the Ratpad.

The func surface has a plastic surface, and definately isn't rubbery.

Anyways that's what I owned, the ratpad was too big for my desk. I like it so far.
 
so ratpadzGS or func or everglide?
it's for someone who doesn't want to scratch his desk with the optical mouse. general PC use, no gaming. but wants smooth movement

Allsop cloth mousepad. You can get them at most electronics or office supply stores. Cloth is definitely the smoothest with a decent amount of friction. Too little friction affects my precision. All the plastic pads I've used are way too slick.
 
I've been using a RatPad and MS Optical Intellimouse Explorer for about 12 months and I'm very happy with the combination - I find it certainly better than the freebie cloth or plastic mouse mats you can usually pick up for free.
 

I would recommend you DONT use a mouse pad...find something cooler! It's optical so you can get away with just about anything. Get a piece of marble or something or just use your desk and throw down a pinch of salt to make it glide nice. I'm using mine on a miniature oriental rug.
 
I use the fUNC because I like it's two piece design. A rubber outside covers the bottom and edges of the mouse surface keeping the surface always in place. The surface itself is hard and is smooth on one side and textured on the other so you can choose how much resistence you prefer. I've heard good things about ratpadz, but I've never used one. Either way, if you're gonna spend $15-$20 on a mousepad you'd expect it to be a pretty damn good product.
