So I built a new computer and my Logictech optical mouse has a pruple LED that shines throw the outer structure. With my old computer, when I turned it off, the mouse LED would go off. With my new computer, it stays on for a long time > 10 hours. I'm not even sure what is causing it to do this: power supply, mobo, etc. The only way I've been able to get it to go off is to turn off the power supply at the back.

Anyone have any ideas?

The Case is an Antec SX835 with a 350 Watt PS. The mobo is an Abit Nv7-133R.

Have you tried the latest version of the optical mouse software or flashing your mobo's BIOS to the latest version? Maybe that'll help? Hope so.

Many new computers can power up from mouse movement and therefore must maintain power to the mouse. This is so the OS's "Hibernate" function can totally shut down a PC and it can "wake up" on mouse movement just like sleep mode.

As CZroe said, this is for your "wake" on mouse movement when your computer is in power saving mode. You can disable this usually through the motherboard bios setting.

Are you using the PS/2 port? Some mobos still provide power to the PS/2 ports which cause the light on the mouse to stay on. It happens with my Intellimouse Explorer 3.0. If I switch it to the usb port, then the light goes out when I power down.

I have mine plugged into the USB port and the light stays on as well, it is normal for that mouse. I just hope you were smart enough to buy rechargeable batteries for that puppy as it eats batteries. The rechargeables have saved me quite a bit of cash.

Uhh, wireless mice can detect touch (Well, MS claims theirs can) and the LED shuts off when stopped and/or released. Besides, he didn't say it was a wireless mouse :)

I have a microsoft intellimouse explorer and it doesn't turn off until I switch the power supply off. It's hooked up via ps/2 through a kvm so I've never tried it with just usb.

Same with me... just switched it to PS2 today. Doesn't really matter... i think I shaved off 10 seconds from my boot time just because i moved my mouse and keyboard to PS2 from USB... OooOooOoOohHhH...
