Optical mouse jumping around

I have a Logitech Optical MouseMan dual-sensor. Lately, the mouse pointer has been jumping around the screen. Mostly occurs in up/down motion. The cursor will move up or down, and then skip to the bottom of the screen, often moving to the left. Doesn't look like a lot to clean on the mouse. Any ideas?

Thanks

hm.. not sure if it would cause such a sudden movement to the bottom but maybe you can blow off any dust that might there be on the sensors (but not likely to do this if it's a dual optical). I've had jumpy behavior with my logitech mouse but it's a single sensor and is most often a hair. although once I had to change the mousepad.. started working quirky on it.. good luck

I once had the exact problem. I tried replacing the mouse with no success. It would usually go away if I reinstalled the mouse drivers and then work for a while before returning. Finally reinstalled XP and the problem went away. Don't know what caused it to start.

Changed the mouse pad. After about 1 hour of use, problem has not reoccurred. Funny, didn't know a mouse pad could wear out. And it was one of those expensive, gel ones! Back to cheapie pads.

Your gel pad may have had a semi-reflective surface, which is not good for an optical mouse. They work much better on a flat-matte surface. My old optical mouse did the same thing when I was running it on a glossy box while moving things around in the house.

You're right. It's looks like a shiny polyester. I've been using an old, no-name pad all day now (several hours) without a glitch. I'll stay away from anything shiny in the future.
