Optical Drives

Hey what are some good optical drives? I need a dvd rw drive that can do both - and +, a dvd drive that can read both + and - , a cdrw drive that can burn cd's, and a cd rom drive that can read cd's. I need at least two drives and can go all the way up to four but I prefer just two drives. I was thinking one drive be dvdrw/cdrw combo and the other drive be cd/dvd combo? Whatever way it is what woul be good optical drives?

I would suggest an ASUS DVD-rom drive, but Newegg stopped selling the black version . If you can live with beige or white, then I'd pick that up.

That one is nice but do they have one that only does dvds and no cds? I'm gonna get a second optical drive anyway so I was yhinking one of them that does dvds and the other that does cds.

That NEC drive is nice. Get that and another DVD rom, then use the NEC to burn all your media. Why would you want a seperate drive to wriet CDs?

As for the DVD (which itself is optional), just get a cheap Lite-on.

There's no point in getting a DVD-only or CD-only drive. The NEC will read and burn all media on the market right now. You name it, the NEC does it. The only reason you should even be picking up another drive is so you can do disc to disc backups of your DVDs/games.

Yes, and that's why I want another drive. Should I just get two of those? Do you know if those are compatible with Linux (Mandrake, Suse, or Gentoo)?

Does the NEC correctly write EFM encoding to cd's?

Most DVD burners cannot, and therefore cannot correctly backup copy protected original cd's without a software emulation layer in place.

This is one major reason why you might want a seperate cd burner,

Just get the NEC and a DVD-ROM, that'll cover all your needs and let you do disk to disk.

Get the Plextor 12x drive, you wont regret the extra money invested. The combo can be a Liteon or Sony.

OK i'll get a Nec and a DVD drive that can recgonize cds also. What would be a good silent dvd drive that can recognize also?
