Optical drives won't work at the same time?

I tried getting an answer for this a month ago, but didn't get it.. it has started to become very annoying now though, so I'll try again.

I have two optical drives physically installed in my machine on the secondary IDE channel:

a) NEC 3500a dvd-burner
b) Lite-On 16x dvd-reader

Now I would like to copy some dvd's from drive to drive, so I need them both to work!
Problem is, that only the master drive shows up - If I have the burner on master, and the reader on slave,
only the burner works, and vice versa. Both drives are at the cable select jumper-position.

Neither of my IDE cables are long enough to allow me to try to mix the optical drives in with the hard drives on the primary IDE cable, unfortunately :/

I have an MSI K7N2 Delta-L motherboard - nForce 2 ultra.

Please help 🙁

You will have to put the optical drives on seperate channels, if necessary you will have to buy an ide cable that is long enough, or put hard drive in a different bay [5 1/2]

madman: Tried that, no luck 🙁
steven: howcome? I used to have a cd-burner and the dvd-reader on the same cable, and that worked just fine.

Its like a one way steet. If one burner is working, it wont allow the other to use the street. The reason your cd-burner probably worked is because a lot less data had to be transfered

Hmm that doesn't make sense.. yea a cd-burner transfers at lower speeds, but not when it's being detected by the BIOS, right? And that's where the problem lies.. the slave-drive doesn't get detected, but both drives got detected just fine with it was the cd-burner and the dvd-reader...
