Optical Drive won't open all the way

Second drive in a row and it won't open more than about an inch. Can pull it open, but then next time... won't open even with pull past about half way point

Just finishing my first mini itx build and first time I have used slim drives.

What should my expectations be and is there some trick to installing so these will open properly on their own??

Is the way you attach the drive to your case warping the drive in any way? One could be a defect, two points to a specific issue.
If you still have the first drive out of the case, how does it behave now? Or, detach the drive you have in there and try outside of the case.

using mounting screws that are too long may cause this.

"slim drives" usually don't open all the way by themselves since theres no room to build in a drawer motor.

That is true. My Lenovo T60 slim drive opens about 1 inch. I can then pull it out all the way. But - it only needs about 3 inches to put in a disk.

One of these days they'll wise up and use slot drives like the MacBooks. 🙂
