*sigh*

The perfectly damn dogged ending to a perfectly damn dogged week. :p

Get second SCSI drive in. (Fujitsu MAS 18GB 15K RPM drive)
Prepare to install to load gaming goodness
Shut down rig
Remove HD cage
Break out the four HD screws to secure drive to cage
Discover that screws are this much too small
Realize that said screws go into LiteOn optical drives and not HDs
Get really, really pissed off
Commence to drinking and watching finding Nemo, laughing at the "talking with whales" scenes :D

The moral of this story:

A 20-minute upgrade takes an hour
You dont' have all the parts
Just wait until tomorrow when Radio Shack opens and you can get the screws

ps
Interestingly enough, in ecstatic anticipation, I'd already wiped the "Games" partition from my IDE array. All that work (saved games) bye-bye all gone. :Q

pps

yep, know the feeling. have managed to crash my external 160GB drive a couple of times due to cabling issues or just plain stupidity.

unless I read that wrong... you wiped your games directory before you installed what you thought was the right kind of screws. So you would have been screwed even if the instal had gone perfectly.

You suck at teh upgrades.

I killed one of the crew mounting holes on my 24x TDK CD-RW when I used a crew that was too big. Now its useless, but the CD-RW drive still works!

Heh, for all intents and purposed, you're correct...except for the "me sucking" part. :p :D

Had "Games" on drive F; different physical HD.
Anticipating installing drive B (diff physical HD), I wiped the F partition
Found out I had the wrong screws, couldn't install drive B
Got pissed.

That's allright...I can beat the "Mona Level" on MP2 now...never did finish the game, though. :disgust:

:Q CRAP! I almost did that today! Before picking out the four screws that turned out to be too small, I grabbed one that looked right and tried it out. Turned the screwdriver kinda fast and felt that "cross threading" feeling. :Q

Luckily, the threads of the drive are fine; the screw got stripped and I chucked it. :disgust:

This sucks. I've got like, 14,019,341 of the proper screws...in storage. :disgust:

Screws will screw you more often than not. My pocket knife uses Torx #6 screws...can you find a Torx #6 screwdriver anywhere in the city? Of course not.

I bought one off EBay, so it'll be here assuming Wing-man Wong shipped it out when he said he did. You think I'm lying but I'm not.

i've used tape to temporarily hold a drive... not as if the screws matter much unless your carrying the case around.

I don't understand how you can delete a partition before backing it up... I also don't understand why you can't use a drive that isn't screwed in. Blame this on your baby's momma I guess.

i have more computer screws than i know what to do with. and if they don't fit in, just jam em in there! :) when they're too small it's tough though.
