Optical Drive Problems

I'm having strange issues with my optical drives (two of them). When I first power up the computer they work like normal. I can read a cd or burn one, whatever. But after that first cd has been put in and I try to insert a another one (doesn't matter which drive) either of the drives wont open manually. Also, when I open the drive via paper clip hole and insert a different cd it still shows that the previous disc is still in there. Finally, after that lovely sturggle I reboot and it will read the new cd but only that cd and I'm back to square one...hope this makes sense.

Opening a drive with a paperclip when it is powered is bad for the drive, can break them.

Some app is taking control of the drive and not letting it go. Try looking at your running process before you use a cd, then after using it, and see if a new app is on the list.
